MAS New 15 A330-300X + 4 A330-200 Freighter

Recommended Posts

For cargo ops, criteria may be different. MH already has long range and heavy lift capability in their 2 744's. So they might go for something that is equivalent to the 742's capacity and range but with better fuel burn. Lets see what they order in future.

I think they will go for the 777f than the 330 as it won't require a stop. But it would be better to see a 748 in MH colours.

To date not many airlines placing order on the B748 yet, let's see what MH will take advantage of this.....

Is it true that one of MH's current A333, 9M-MKR will be leaving the active fleet today for Brussels Airlines?

The fifth Airbus A330-300 is expected to be delivered on 10 March. It is currently still operating for Malaysia Airlines, as 9M-MKR. Upon arrival in Brussels, it will get a new livery and interior, and other preparations for entry into service will be undertaken. It is expected to start operations for Brussels Airlines from June 2010[21].

I'm not suprised as there are too many 330's because they do have a lazy 747 fleet and the 737 is taking over some routes.

BREAKING NEWS!

The MH Rumour Department just leaked another news that MH is actually ordering 17 A330s, not 15!

Malaysia Airlines is placing a firm order with Airbus for 17 A330 widebody aircraft with an additional two more A330-200F freighters than previously announced.

The additional 2 frames will be freighters of the A330-200F variant (for MAS Kargo).

The official signing ceremony of this 17 aircrafts purchase is scheduled tomorrow (31 March 2010). Airbus COO-Customer Mr. John Leahy is rumoured to be in town for this event as well.

MAS orders A330-200Fs

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has ordered two Airbus A330-200 freighters, along with a previously announced order for up to 25 A330-300 passenger widebodies.

It has placed firm orders for two A330-200Fs with options for another two. The first freighter will join the MASKargo fleet in September 2011, says MAS.

The airline signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus in December for firm orders of 15 A330 passenger aircraft, and 10 options. Deliveries of these will begin in the first half of 2011, says the carrier.

"The new freighters will enable us to better serve the intra-Asia route, and offer direct services to Europe from India and Bangladesh. This complements our expansion plans in China, and will strengthen our position as a key niche player in the region," says MAS managing director and CEO Azmil Zahruddin.

MASkargo will fly the new freighters on sectors of up to 3,200nm, says the carrier. The aircraft will be able to carry payloads of almost 70t, it adds.

MAS' new A330 passenger aircraft will be configured with 283 seats in a two-class layout, says the airline.

"The A330-300 will become the mainstay of the carrier's medium haul passenger fleet and will be used on services to destinations across the Asia Pacific region, as well as up to the Middle East," says MAS, which already operates 14 A330s.

MAS plans to expand capacity on some routes from 28 March, and will add more flights to its services to Paris, Auckland and Perth. It expects to announce new destinations from the second quarter of this year, it adds.

Wow! The first double-chin Airbus freighter in Southeast Asia!

Let's hope that once in a while, it makes a little excursion to Singapore Changi Airport. Otherwise its one more reason for Singapore-based spotters to make the pilgrimage to KLIA.

ANy rumours/ideas/ insights on cabin products?

Not yet, but rest assured all spies and moles from the Rumour Department have been blackmailed to leak any info/photo the moment it becomes available to them LOL.

MAS' new A330 passenger aircraft will be configured with 283 seats in a two-class layout, says the airline. It expects to announce new destinations from the second quarter of this year, it adds.

Interesting fact. Thats mean there will be a reduction of 11 seats from MH's current A333s. The specs:

MH's current A333s - 44J, 250Y = 294 seats

MH's new A333s - xxJ, xxY = 283 seats

Based on the number of seats, I bet MH's configuration for the new A333s would be somewhat identical to SQ's new A333s. SQ's new A333s seat (30J + 255Y) = 285 passengers, just 2 seats more than MH's.

DMM in Saudi Arabia has been leaked by the Rumour Department as MH's newest destination.

And I seriously thought that the 10 options would be converted to 350's as by then 2016 all orders will be for A350. So does it mean that MH will be the last customer/final customer to receive the A330 before production ceases?

Any idea about the new A333 powerplant? Is the new A333 using RR Trents (just like D7 and SQ) or P&W (just like the current fleet)?

But SQ's new A333s (285 seats) only have 32" seat pitch for Economy Class and 60" for Business Class. MH's current A333s have 34" of seat pitch in Economy Class and 45" for Business Class. Chances are, the seat pitch for MH's new A333s will be reduced to 32" to make way for more space for Business Class seats (which can lie flat most probably, at least angled-flat).

I am betting on the RR Trent 700s! Most recent airline orders have gone for this engine as it is still being improved by RR all the time. SQ's Trent 700EP are the very latest with even higher fuel efficiency.

Congrates to MH for the purchase.

At least 2 threads have been up in A.Net regarding this news:

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/4761689/

But rest assured, MalaysianWings will be the first to know about news of this nature, much earlier than the likes of Flight Global and Airliners.Net.

33" seat pitch is still good with 2-4-2 arrangement. SQ Bussiness is massive for A330. It looks a little bit crowded IMO, based on the pictures on SQ Talk.

I think the A330-200F is a good fit for MH especially for regional cargo. It has a good payload capability and of course, now it will have economies of scale too, with MH also operating A333's.

Can these new generation A330 do FRA and CDG with normal pax and cargo loads?

It can at reduced load but there is no safety margin if there is a full load. However, I do not think MH plans to use the A333 on their European routes. They will continue with the B772's on those routes (not many). Perhaps they may buy some next generation B777s, B787s or A350s later, when the current B772's are due for replacement.

As for cargo, range is not so important as the A332F can make fuel stops along the way. According to Airbus, the A332F's range is 7,400 km. This compares with 13,400 km for the pax version and 10,800 km for the A333.
