Middle Eastern Airlines into KUL

Recommended Posts

Do these Iranian carriers have code share with MH? Otherwise MH can feed the traffic from Oz.

Apparently they don't. Let see, MH has code share agreement with:

  • QR on KUL-DOH vv
  • GF on KUL-BAH vv
  • MS on KUL-CAI vv
  • EY on KUL-AUH vv, AUH-MCT vv, AUH-KWI vv, AUH-BAH vv

And just that.

Yes, those are MH's code share flights operated by their partner airlines. Of course, MH also operate loads of other code share flights on behalf of their partners on MH's own metal, as follows:

  • EY - KUL-JHB vv, KUL-PEN vv, KUL-KUA vv, KUL-LGK vv, KUL-KCH vv, KUL-BKI vv
  • GF - KUL-PEN vv, KUL-LGK vv, KUL-CGK vv
  • TK - KUL-IST vv

... on top of what nastar has updated about QR.

and...............don't forget the plenty codeshared Scandinavian destinations, operated by KLM.

Are the UK domestic destinations still code-shared on BD ?

if u refer to the previous reply - "Otherwise MH can feed the traffic from Oz. "

and my point is not on the domestic route codeshared with MH, but MH also has codeshare agreement with QR on KUL-PER v.v. so that MH is already feeding the trafic from Oz (particularly PER).

Gulf carriers dismiss prediction that most Middle East airlines will 'disappear'

By Cathy Buyck | June 10, 2010

While claiming he did not want to make yet another controversial comment, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker did just that at the IATA AGM this week when he said there is no need for consolidation among Persian Gulf airlines because the majority will "just disappear."

He added, "There will be two dominant carriers" in the region. "You can guess which ones," he said, presumably referring to his own and Emirates. Etihad Airways CEO James Hogan remained unfazed by Al Baker's statement, telling ATW that it was not worth commenting on. Royal Jordanian Chairman and CEO Hussein Dabbas similarly dismissed the prediction and said there is need for consolidation in the region.

"There is room for airlines like RJ to merge with another carrier," he said. "I think consolidation will happen, but not now and it will be like Air France KLM, British Airways and Iberia, Lufthansa-Swiss…Airlines will maintain their national identity."

But he added, "I do not envisage that many of the carriers in the Gulf and the Middle East region will disappear [owing to] the fact that they are flag carriers. How big they will be will depend on their business plan and whether they are providing the right service to attract passengers. And like in all regions, there will continue to be some successful and less successful carriers, some big and some small ones."

Try not to create another thread, so I just paste the story in here. Do MH have any female cadet? Even SQ don't have any female flightcrew (or do they?)

Women begin to take their place in Middle Eastern aviation

By Murdo Morrison

Women pilots are still relatively rare among the Middle East airlines and local females even more so. But this is slowly changing as cultural career barriers are dismantled in a number of professions, including aviation where Arab women are taking their place as pilots, managers and technicians.

Etihad has made significant strides with its cadet scheme for Emiratis. Last October, Salma Al-Baloushi and Aisha Al-Mansouri became the first females to achieve their airline transport pilot licences as part of the programme.

The pair - part of an 11-strong cohort - began their training in September 2007 and on graduating attained the rank of second officers. They then went on to undertake a multi-crew conversion course to gain their wings as Airbus A320 first officers.

Already (partially) updated by Azizul, here's a complete overview of new destinations by QR:

Qatar's expansion moves ahead full speed

June 22, 2010

Qatar Airways announced that its expansion is continuing "with vigor" and it will launch five new routes from its base in Doha to Europe and Asia over a four-month period starting in October.

QR will initiate daily flights to Phuket via Kuala Lumpur Oct. 11 while a four-times-weekly service to Hanoi via Bangkok will commence Nov. 1 and thrice-weekly flights to Nice via Milan Malpensa will start Nov. 24. It will begin four flights weekly to Bucharest Jan. 17 with service continuing on to Budapest, and a five-times-weekly service to Brussels will be introduced Jan. 31. In addition, its current four-times-weekly flights to Ho Chi Minh City will become daily.

"Qatar Airways' track record to grow remains strong and solid," CEO Akbar Al Baker said. "The airline is well positioned globally, focusing on a long-term strategy that is forward thinking...Budapest, Bucharest, Brussels, Nice, Hanoi and Phuket represent markets underserved, so these are excellent opportunities for us to tap into."

By 2013, QR plans to serve 120 destinations worldwide with a fleet of 120 aircraft. Today its fleet stands at 84 aircraft flying to 90 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and North America. Over the past six months it introduced flights to Bangalore, Copenhagen, Ankara, Tokyo and Barcelona, and on Thursday it is commencing daily flights to Sao Paulo Guarulhos and onward to Buenos Aires Ezeiza aboard a 777-200.

With the recent development and new rumours from MH Rumour Department, the speculated 3 new Middle Eastern destinations for MH stand at RUH (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), KWI (Kuwait City, Kuwait) and MCT (Muscat, Oman).

BREAKING NEWS!

The 1st out of 3 new Middle Eastern destinations by MH has been leaked by the MH Rumour Department just now and we are all missed the target LOL.

MH to launch Dammam (DMM) via Dubai (DXB). MH will use the current flight MH 154/155 KUL-DXB-KUL to extend the service to DMM. It will be 2 weekly service using A332, every Wed and Sat (from DMM) and every Tue and Fri (from KUL).

And the second new destination for MH in the Middle East region is Riyadh (RUH).

Malaysia Airlines to start Riyadh flights in December

October 10, 2010

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/business/article/malaysia-airlines-to-start-riyadh-flights-in-december/

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will begin flights to Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia, on Dec 17, MAS Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said today.

He said Riyadh was the airline’s third new destination this year after Dammam, also in Saudi Arabia, and Bandung in Indonesia.

MAS will have three flights a week, departing Kuala Lumpur on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8.05pm and arriving in Riyadh at 11.40pm, he said in a statement.

Azmil said that in conjunction with the launch of the new destination, MAS was offering promotional fares to Riyadh, starting from RM1,200.

“As a focal point for trade and a burgeoning region for tourism, the Middle East is a key market for us. Likewise, the Arabs are very attracted to Malaysia as a vacation or honeymoon destination and a potential trade partner,” he said.

Riyadh was experiencing a development boom with new conglomerates and companies building headquarters in the city, he said.

It was also developing its tourism sector, offering visitors a myriad of options from safaris featuring camel markets, traditional souqs (markets), home stays, horse rides and golf, he added.

Azmil said that in the Middle East, MAS also connected to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (seven times weekly), Beirut in Lebanon and Istanbul in Turkey (thrice weekly) and Dammam in Saudi Arabia (twice weekly).

“MAS is also the official airline for Haj and Umrah pilgrims,” he added. — Bernama

As expected since the very beginning, Riyadh is a no brainer. It is Saudi Arabia's capital city, largest city (bigger than Jeddah) and extremely high yielding. I wonder whether RUH is served non stop from KUL or via DXB like DMM. And what equipment will be used? B772 or A332/3? Or perhaps B744?

So, with this announcement, the last new destination for MH in the Middle East region will be...? I put my bet on Kuwait City (KWI).

Days 2-5-7 from December. Fortunately on the 772 and not on the ancient 333.

As informed by Mushrif in another thread, it will be on the B772.

The flight is going to be operated by a two class configured Boeing 777-200ER and the 3 weekly nonstop flights is effective from Dec 17th 2010.

I guess while KUL is busy building its hub and gateway to Middle East area, SIN is busy building its hub and gateway to Europe.

Emirates planning KUL to get increase from 21 weekly to 25 weekly.

BKK will get second daily A380.

I guess frequency is much more important than capacity for KUL, eh? Otherwise we would have seen an A380 a long time ago.

With exception for the MEL-extension flight, there's a loaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad carried by the 10-abreast EK's 77W on the DXB-KUL-DXB route. So, the question is, which makes the most, inbound or outbound traffic. Judging by the extensive EK's network to the west of DXB, it might be inbound to KUL. But, it might be otherwise. Maybe somebody can shed some light.

Of all the big three (EK, EY, QR) only EY still not increase their frequency. Their schedule doesn't permit smooth connection to most of the destination.

As it is more economical for airline to substitute 2x773 with one A380, if EK has enough number of A380, won’t be surprise EK may operate regular A380 service to KUL before MH :good:

You may relate about EY frequency to the below link:

http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/4909517/

One of the reason is that they dont have enough aircraft to increase their frequency.

On QR development, lets wait & see what will happen in S11 ;)

If the frequency increase is confirmed, then it is a great news! I guess the issue with the A380 deployment to KUL is the yield. Although EK would probably have no problem to fill in the Economy Class cabin, it could be quite a challenge with their (high density) Business Class and First class cabins. EK must be having some list which ranked all their possible A380 flights by net yield, so once all the flights which are ranked higher than any of the current 3 flights into KUL get the A380, our turn will come.

Of all the big three (EK, EY, QR) only EY still not increase their frequency. Their schedule doesn't permit smooth connection to most of the destination.

In a recent thread in A.Net, it was revealed that Etihad never makes a profit and is actually flying on behalf of the Abu Dhabi government, akin to the nature of Royal Brunei Airlines. It is not a commercially run and driven entity.

Whilst more & more middle eastern carriers are coming to KUL, MH was not just silent about it & code-share with them to their middle east home base & beyond.

Which is a good development and it was done in rather prompt manner too as exhibited with the case of Royal Jordanian and Oman Air. Now I just hope MH could step it up by including these flights into their booking engine ASAP.

Emirates planning KUL to get increase from 21 weekly to 25 weekly.

If we look at the planned schedule:

Dubai – Kuala Lumpur eff 28MAR11 Increase from 21 to 25 weekly

EK408 DXB0240 – 1350KUL 77W D

EK346 DXB0315 – 1415KUL 77W D

EK342 DXB1030 – 2135KUL 773 D

EK344 DXB2115 – 0820+1KUL 77W x267

EK343 KUL0200 – 0450DXB 773 D

EK345 KUL0955 – 1245DXB 77W x137

EK409 KUL1015 – 1300DXB 77W D

EK347 KUL1930 – 2220DXB 773 D

The new outbound flight (EK 344) will provide another excellent timing option for EK flyers on transit - departing DXB at 9 pm with arrival in KUL at 8 am on the following day.

But the inbound flight (EK 345) will depart only 15 minutes earlier than flight EK 409 (which is the one that is coming from MEL). Can EK pull this up - sending 2 B77W jets out of KUL in between 15 minutes on 4 days in a week?

I think they surely can. Flight EK 408 and EK 346, both operated by the B77Ws depart DXB to KUL at only 35 minutes interval and EK has been successfully doing it since 1 February 2010 on a daily basis.
