Middle Eastern Airlines into KUL

Recommended Posts

My Wikileaks intel told me that:

There is a lot more serious/complicated situation in Nepal than the normal protectionism stuff. Apparently all Nepal Airlines domestic flights were cancelled on Wednesday due to staff protesting this Air Arabia flight!

I dread to think the consequences for Nepal after rescinding the rights after signing an open skies agreement. UAE will surely retaliate?

And the second new destination for MH in the Middle East region is Riyadh (RUH).

The schedule of MH's new service to RUH:

MH 152 Dep KUL 2005 Arr RUH 2340

MH 153 Dep RUH 0110 Arr KUL 1400

The flight is going to be operated by a two class configured Boeing 777-200ER and the 3 weekly nonstop flights is effective from Dec 17th 2010.

Just an update, after the postponement of the launch of RUH from 17 December 2010 to 3 June 2011, the route is now officially scrapped altogether. Boooo to MH!

Planned 3 weekly service on Kuala Lumpur – Riyadh, starting 03JUN11, is CANCELED.

From A.Net:

Malaysia Airlines has officially announced on the GDS system that it shall be increasing its presence in JED-Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from the on set of the IATA Summer 2011 season. Currently, MH offers 4 weekly nonstop flights between KUL and JED using a Boeing 777-200ER.

However from March 27th, frequencies are increased to 6 times per week using a Boeing 747-400 four times per week + twice a week B 772ERs.

In total, the capacity increase on offer is from 1128 one way weekly seats to 2000 i.e. 872 more aka 77% increase in capacity.

http://airlineroute.net/2011/02/18/mh-jed-s11update2/

This is my theory regarding the issue.

We all know that MH announced launching RUH 3 weekly B772 service on 17 December 2010, only to have it postponed to 3 June 2011 later on, only to cancelled it all together recently.

We also know that D7 (AirAsia X) has been applying JED for quite sometimes now but is still being denied by the Malaysian government, of course to protect MH.

And we all certainly know that during the mass evacuation of 11,000 Malaysians from CAI recently due to the political crisis in Egypt, AK and D7 were granted rights into JED after intervention at the very highest level. Chances are, these rights will stay and will be used for commercial scheduled flights soon.

And therefore I think this sudden change to JED and abrupt cancellation of RUH by MH is about upsetting D7 in anticipation of its entry into JED.

.

As for the planned 2 daily flights into KUL by QR, it will be done gradually. http://airlineroute.net/2011/02/18/qr-kulsez-s11/

Doha – Kuala Lumpur

eff 27MAR11 Increase from 11 to 12 weekly (QR622/623 new flight on Sundays, not extending to Phuket)

QR622 DOH0805 – 2045KUL 332 7

QR1623 KUL0335 – 0600DOH 332 7

eff 01MAY11 Increase from 12 to 13 weekly (QR620/621 new flight on Sundays, Mondays from KUL)

eff 03OCT11 Increase from 13 to 14 weekly (QR620/621 new flight on Thursdays, Fridays from KUL)

QR620 DOH2010 – 0850+1KUL 332 x2

Service till 02OCT11 operates Day x35 (Day x46 from KUL)

RUH is so not low cost. If D7 goes there, the route will be suspended much faster than AUH.

D7 to JED will bring so much joy to prospective passengers in the religious tourism and labour markets, not only from Malaysia but also from Indonesia and the Philippines.

Apparently MS (Egypt Air) has been suspending KUL since the political crisis in the country mounted. KUL remained suspended as of today. Hopefully the service could recover soon as the situation in the country improves. http://airlineroute.net/2011/03/02/ms-s11-revision/

After the announcement, then postponement, then another postponement and then a cancellation, MH will still serve RUH albeit only as seasonal flights. http://airlineroute.net/2011/03/31/mh-ruh-jun11/

MH is to serve RUH during the peak summer season in the Middle East for 1 month only (24JUN11 to 26JUL11) using a mix of B772 and the old A333. All flights are non stop.

.

.

.

On the other hand, Mahan Air will introduce Shiraz-KUL and suspend Tehran-KUL. http://airlineroute.net/2011/03/31/w5-kulsaw-s11/

Malaysians can soon fly to Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires via Dubai. EK is launching daily EZE via GIG B77W service with traffic rights between the 2 cities starting 3 January 2012. http://www.businesstraveller.com/middle-east/news/emirates-to-fly-daily-to-buenos-aires-via-rio

With SQ's recent venture in GRU, QR's GRU and EZE and now the mighty EK in GIG and EZE, more pressure is now on MH's EZE flight since MH is stuck with 2 weekly frequency and a firm no go for any additional frequency from the South African government. Interestingly, EK also flies to GRU so the fact that it flies to both GRU and GIG (which is located close to each other) with 2 dedicated flights is quite admirable.

It's not really co-located as the flight-distance is 210 miles or 337 kilometers, about the same distance as AMS-LON :pardon:

Moreover, EK also operates to MAN versus LON and DUS versus FRA/HAM, so there's plenty of more close-by cities served by EK...indeed, slaughtering

No wonder, some (EU) countries want to limit EK's increase of flights !!!

EK also serves Birmingham (BHX) too, which is halfway between London and Manchester, a mere 96 miles (150km) from Heathrow

Glasgow and Newcastle, both served by EK are also just over 100 miles apart. EK is everywhere these days
