KLIA1's growth is of course driven mainly by Malindo's move from KLIA2, though overall KLIA has had quite impressive YoY growth.

Always need to remember that all this is coming from a time when MAS is struggling. Numbers will be much better hopefully once their expansion is truly full force.

AirAsia X's 2Q operating performance above expectations

KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): AirAsia X Bhd's operating performance in the second quarter of 2017 (2Q17) trended slightly above expectations despite the period historically being the leanest in any given year, the group said today.
The company continues to stimulate demand to fill up additional capacity injected in 2Q17 by achieving a marked improvement in passenger load factor (PLF) of 80%, up 5 percentage points (ppts) year-on-year (y-o-y), in line with the 26% y-o-y growth in available seat per kilometers (ASK) to 8.45 billion in 2Q17, said AirAsia X in a statement today.
During the quarter under review, AirAsia X Malaysia added frequency to two routes: Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai and Osaka.
AirAsia X Malaysia also added Honolulu to its network during the quarter under review, the airline's maiden service to the US, the group said.
"No new aircraft was added into AirAsia X Malaysia in 2Q17, hence, the fleet size stood at 22 A330s," said AirAsia X.

AirAsia Group Q2 load factor higher at 88%
KUALA LUMPUR: Low-cost carrier AirAsia Group saw its load factor climb three percentage points to 88% in the second quarter ended June 30, 2017, boosted by strong demand for air travel as it expanded its routes and frequencies.
It said on Thursday the total number of passengers carried increased 14% year-on-year to 15.81 million, more than the 11% increase in capacity.
At the end of the quarter under review, the group’s total fleet size stood at 178 aircraft (180 including two aircraft delivered to AirAsia Japan but yet to commence operation).
“AirAsia Berhad consolidated (AOCs) achieved a load factor of 89%, up by two percentage points from the same period last year. Strong demand for air travel helped the number of passengers carried increase 10% year-on-year to 9.61 million, more than the 8% increase in capacity,” it said.

MAHB: Five new airlines coming to KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Airports operator Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is hopeful that five new airlines will be making its way to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) next year.Managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said at least two of the new airlines would be from countries that are not yet present in KLIA.

"I just come back from the World Routes Forum 2017 in Barcelona, Spain where multiple discussion were had and I am hopeful that at least five more new airlines will join us next year," Badlisham told journalists at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2017 here today.

"As you know, we are always actively looking for partners and new airlines to come join us, for 2017 we already saw eight new airlines joining us and since everything in aviation is seasonal, we are not expecting any more new airlines for the rest of the year," he said.

In 2017, eight new airlines has made its way to Malaysia.

Badlisham also expect local airports passenger traffic to surpass that of 2016 which was at 88.83 million.

Incidentally, 2016 was also the first time KLIA passenger traffic surpassed 50 million mark.

"We have seen really good passenger volume in the third quarter and we are expecting to sustain this trend until the end of the year, and we are expecting another bumper month in November and December as people typically travel at the end of the year,” he said.

“Our original (growth) forecast (for passenger volume) was at six per cent this year but we have revised that to eight per cent, and I believe we may end up at some 90 million this year for Malaysia as a whole.”

When asked on his budget wishlist, Badlisham noted that a number of MAHB’s airports needed infrastructure upgrading.

“For airports, we have the volume but we need more capacity (upgrading) for airports infrastructure and that's something that the government has to look into,” said Badlisham while noting that Subang Airport has already hit its maximum capacity.

“In fact, Kota Kinabalu and Penang requires some infrastructure funding in the couple of months.”

MAHB saw its international traffic increased by 15.8 per cent year on year (YoY) to 5.5 million passengers while domestic traffic rose by 1.3 per cent to 5.9 million passengers as of 31 August this year.

And those immigration counters are at worst, very long queue.

I guess one of the 2018 newcomer airline is Gulf Air (Bahrain) , and my wishful thinking of Lufthansa (Germany) , Air France (France) , Kuwait Airways (Kuwait) and Iran Air (Iran) make a comeback. These countries except Iran, are the countries that are not yet present in KLIA.

Very ill aerotrain ("hari ni satu saja tren jalan"), long immigration queue ( "autogate 1 saja boleh guna, 4 tak boleh, sebab sedang mau migrate vendor baru"), interminable wait for luggage (experienced 4-in-1 arrivals in one belt) and outdated coupon taxi system ('budget taxi tak ada, hanya tinggal luxury dan family taxi'), although metered taxi is available, makes the experience feel so third world. In recent months, it is getting more and more frustrating to travel via KLIA.

With aerotrain track extension, mahb should have spare train set to guarantee 100% service level.

Understand congestion at autogate is caused by the new vendor placing rfid chip in photo page instead of back cover as previously; a case of reinventing the wheel. And polycarbonate laminate by the new vendor may compressed/damaged the rfid chip.

It seems during heavy rain at kul t1, baggage couldn't be unloaded and one could wait up to 90 minutes for luggage. As if it rarely rain in this country.

Maybe some lesser known airlines from China.

Or maybe we'll see FSC passing the route to their LCC siblings, like what happened with CX/KA.

Airside transfer will be more meaningful if include checked in luggage.

Do people not read articles anymore or is it too much work to click on the link and read the article in its entirety?

It's right there in the article!

Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said passengers with other onward international destinations would no longer be required to check out their baggage at the main terminal where they arrive.

“More interestingly, passengers and their respective baggage will also be transferred free between both terminals,” he added.

I'm curious - the airlines in T2 are LCCs, which AFAIK don't have interline agreements with airlines in T1. How will the bags be transferred?

I'd be very surprised if the airlines (especially those in T2) are willing to re-tag bags behind the scenes.
