SEPTEMBER 2016 OPERATING RESULTS

 

In September 2016, SIA Group passenger airlines' passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) increased marginally by 0.1% compared to last year, trailing growth in capacity (measured in available seat kilometres) of 3.1%. Passenger load factor (PLF) fell 2.3 percentage points to 77.9%.
Singapore Airlines' PLF fell 2.1 percentage points to 78.7%. Passenger carriage fell 4.2% compared to last year, against a 1.7% decrease in capacity. Consequently, PLF fell 2.1 percentage points to 78.7%.
PLF remained flat for East Asia, but declined for all other regions due to weaker passenger demand. During the month, Singapore Airlines launched its new "Capital Express" service to Canberra and Wellington, linking Singapore for the first time with the capital cities of both Australia and New Zealand. The competitive landscape remains challenging and promotional activities will continue in relevant markets.
SilkAir’s systemwide passenger carriage increased by 8.9% year-on-year, compared to a 10.5% expansion in capacity. Consequently, PLF declined by 1.0 percentage points to 65.7%. Growth in passenger carriage for East Asia and Pacific lagged behind capacity growth, resulting in a 1.3 percentage point decrease in PLF, while West Asia recorded a 0.3 percentage point increase in PLF.
Scoot's systemwide passenger carriage grew by 51.0% year-on-year. Capacity increased by 60.4% as the number of aircraft increased from seven to twelve. Consequently, PLF decreased by 4.9 percentage points to 78.6%.
Tigerair's systemwide passenger carriage declined 3.3% year-on-year compared to a 0.1% increase in capacity. Consequently, PLF decreased by 2.7 percentage points to 79.0%.
Cargo load factor (CLF) was 0.5 percentage points lower as cargo traffic (measured in freight-tonneskilometres) grew 4.4% against capacity expansion of 5.2%. CLF improved for Americas and East Asia route regions, while South West Pacific and West Asia and Africa route regions registered declines in CLF as demand did not keep pace with capacity changes.

AirAsia Group achieved a 3Q16 load factor of 87%, up from 81% in 3Q15. Passenger numbers increased 11% year-on-year to 14.23 million.


AirAsia Berhad (“AirAsia” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce the operating statistics for the 3rd Quarter 2016 (“3Q16”).


In 3Q16, the Group[1] posted load factor of 87%, up 6 percentage points (“ppts”) from the same period last year. The total number of passengers carried increased 11% year-on-year (“YoY”) to 14.23 million, well ahead of the 2% increase in seat capacity. At the end of the quarter under review, the Group’s total fleet size stood at 171 aircraft (173 including two aircraft delivered to AirAsia Japan but yet to

commence operations).


Malaysia AirAsia (“MAA”) achieved a load factor of 89% in 3Q16, a record high and an increase of 7 ppts YoY. Passenger numbers increased 5% YoY to 6.63 million while capacity was reduced by 3%.MAA ended the quarter with a fleet size of 77 aircraft including 2 newly delivered Airbus A320neo.


Thai AirAsia (“TAA”) posted a load factor of 84% in 3Q16, up 3 ppts YoY. The number of passengers carried increased 21% YoY to 4.33 million, more than the 17% increase in capacity. During the quarter, TAA started operating the Hat Yai – Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok – Vientiane routes and increased frequencies on the Bangkok – Udon Thani route. TAA ended the quarter with a fleet size of 49 aircraft.


Indonesia AirAsia (“IAA”) achieved a record load factor of 90% in 3Q16 with a 15 ppts increase YoY. Passenger numbers were 2% higher YoY at 1.71 million while capacity was reduced by 14%. At the end of the quarter under review the fleet size stood at 22 aircraft, including 8 aircraft operated by Indonesia AirAsia X (“IAAX”).


Philippines AirAsia’s (“PAA”) load factor stood at 83% in 3Q16, a decrease of 1 ppt YoY. The number of passengers carried was at 0.98 million, up 8% YoY. Capacity increased by 9% YoY as frequencies were added on the Manila – Kalibo (Boracay) and Manila – Puerto Princessa routes. PAA ended the quarter with a fleet of 15 aircraft.


AirAsia India (“AAI”) achieved a load factor of 88% in 3Q16, up 12 ppts YoY. The number of passengers carried increased 42% YoY to 0.59 million, more than the 23% increase in capacity. Three new routes were inaugurated during the quarter: Bengaluru – Guwahati; Bengaluru – Hyderabad and Hyderabad– Goa. Frequencies were added on the Bengaluru – Goa route. AAI’s fleet consisted of 8 aircraft at the

end of the quarter.

Preliminary Operating Statistics

For the 3rd Quarter of the Financial Year Ended 2016


AirAsia X Berhad (“AAX” or “the Company”), the long-haul, low cost airline affiliate of the AirAsia Group is pleased to announce its operating statistics for the 3rd quarter 2016 (“3Q16”).


Operating performance in 3Q16 has exceeded expectations despite huge capacity added during the quarter. The number of passengers carried during the reported period saw a whopping 35% increase year-on-year (“YoY”) to 1.22 million, exceeding capacity addition of 29%. The double digit growth of passengers carried was partly attributed to the strong demand for travel observed from North Asia and amongst Malaysians during double Eid celebrations in July and September as well as Malaysia Day long weekend.


The Company continues to stimulate demand to fill up the additional capacity injected in 3Q16, by achieving a marked improvement in Passenger Load Factor (“PLF”) of 78%, up 3 ppts YoY, on the back of 34% YoY growth in Available Seat per Kilometers (“ASK”) to 7,749 million in 3Q16. It is worth to note that all of the aforementioned growth achieved despite Quarter 3 historically being one of the leanest

quarters.


During the quarter under review, Malaysia AirAsia X (“MAAX”) added frequencies on five routes: Kuala Lumpur – Gold Coast, Sydney, Beijing, Shanghai and Osaka, boosted by increasing demand. No new route was added during the quarter. MAAX returned one A330 in 3Q16, allowing them to end the quarter with 22 A330s.


Thai AirAsia X (“TAAX”) recorded strong PLF of 85%, an increase of 14 ppts from 71% a year ago. TAAX carried 348,839 passengers in 3Q16, 71% higher against the same period last year. No new route or frequency increased in TAAX’s network this quarter as Management zoomed in on turning around the current operating routes. No additional aircraft was added into TAAX during the quarter under review

hence their fleet size at the end of September remained at 6 aircraft.


Meanwhile, Indonesia AirAsia X (“IAAX”) recorded healthy PLF of 77%, up 8 ppts YoY, with an unchanged fleet size of 2 A330s. IAAX has temporarily suspended its flights to Sydney and Melbourne effective 1 September 2016. The suspension of these services is part of a network restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiencies at IAAX.


Overall performance in 3Q16 signifies marked improvements in all areas compared to the same period last year despite huge capacity added. The Company remains cautiously optimistic to ensure sustainable growth and strengthen our position in core markets where we can build up our market leadership position going into 4Q16 as well as 2017.

New Delhi sees around 1200 flight movements daily including charters

 

Delhi airport is in headlines because of fog and flight delays but there is some cheerful news too.
Delhi airport sees the highest number of Airbus A320 flights in the world, according to a report by aviation website anna.aero.
The website, which tracks airline network planning, analysed aircraft type wise departures for the first week of August. The report was released earlier in the week.
While Dubai airport has the highest number of Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 flights, Delhi tops the list for A320 movements.

If you are a fan of turboprop aircraft, in particular the ATR 72, then Kuala Lumpur’s old Subang Airport is the place to go to see them. Malaysian carrier firefly currently operates 21 of the type.

(HONG KONG, 29 December 2016) – Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) today welcomed its 70 millionth passenger of the year, the first time HKIA’s annual passenger throughput surpassed this remarkable milestone.

 

Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), greeted the 70 millionth passenger at the arrival gate. The passenger, who is a Taiwanese traveller named Lin Yi-ju, arrived at HKIA from Bangkok this morning. She was presented with HK$30,000 cash coupons from the AA, and two round-trip business-class air tickets for an Asian destination sponsored by Cathay Pacific.

 

Mr So said, “HKIA’s annual passenger throughput surpassed 60 million for the first time in 2014, and only two years later, today we reached the 70 million mark. The AA is delighted to witness this strong growth momentum. We expect that all three traffic categories – passengers, cargo and flight movements – will set new annual records in 2016. I am particularly grateful to the over 73,000 staff of the airport community, whose concerted efforts have helped maintain efficient operations to receive an ever rising amount of passengers whilst providing a pleasant travel experience for our guests.”

 

“To meet increasing passenger demand, the AA has initiated a number of major medium- and long-term developments. The construction of the Three-runway System has commenced on 1 August this year, and in the meantime the expansion of Terminal 1 is underway. HKIA will also continue to apply innovations and smart technology with a view to providing even more convenient services for our passengers and enhancing the overall airport experience,” added Mr So.

 

HKIA is one of the busiest airports in the world. Currently, HKIA is connected to over 190 destinations worldwide, providing about 1,100 daily flights through over 100 airlines. During the year, the efforts of the airport community have been recognised once again with a range of commendations. To date, HKIA has won more than 60 “best airport” awards.

KLM has been a long player at KUL sector for years. With MH withdrawal from AMS plus codesharing, KLM recognition, market share and presence is getting stronger somehow.

Yeah, I think KL was on course for more than 50 million pax in 2014 when the twin disasters struck and the growth plateaued ... then MH has their turnaround on top of that so things were stagnant for 2 years

According to our analysis of OAG data for this coming summer there will be 72 airports worldwide offering at least one low-cost long-haul (LCLH) flight per week. These airports will wave off 903 weekly departures operated by 17 different airlines. Our definition of long-haul is anything over 4,500 kilometres (which is consistent with our definition when determining winners in our annual ANNIE awards). For the sake of simplicity we will use the classification of low-cost airlines used by OAG.

 

Norwegian deposes AirAsia X as leading LCLH airline by flights
Using the first week of August as our analysis period, and comparing it with last year, reveals that in terms of weekly flights offered Norwegian has overtaken AirAsia X to become the world’s #1 LCLH carrier. With flights to the US from four Scandinavian airports (Bergen, Copenhagen, Oslo Gardermoen and Stockholm Arlanda), London Gatwick, Paris CDG and starting in June, Barcelona, the carrier has increased its long-haul flights this summer by 34%. AirAsia X, operating from its sole base in Kuala Lumpur, has also increased its offering, but by a more modest 10%. It recently revealed that Wuhan in China would be its next new destination with four times weekly flights starting in March. However, in terms of seat capacity AirAsia X still leads the way as it flies 377-seat A330s compared with Norwegian’s fleet of 787-8s (291 seats) and -9s (344 seats).
Another point to consider is that of AirAsia X’s 19 routes from KUL this summer only 10 are longer than 4,500 kilometres, with all the others being between 3,000 and 4,500 kilometres. In contrast, all of Norwegian’s ‘long-haul’ routes easily meet the 4,500-kilometre threshold, with the airline’s London Gatwick to Boston route being the shortest at 5,267 kilometres.

AirAsia Q4 load factor rises to 85%
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Bhd recorded a load factor of 85%, in the fourth quarter of 2016, up 2 percentage points from the same period last year.
The carrier said the total number of passengers carried increased 7% year-on-year (yoy) to 14.51 million, well ahead of the 5% increase in seat capacity.
At the end of the quarter under review, the group’s total fleet size stood at 172 aircraft (174 including two aircraft delivered to AirAsia Japan but yet to commence operations).
For FY2016, the group carried a total of 56.59 million passengers for a load factor of 86%.
AirAsia said its Malaysian operations achieved a load factor of 87% in 4Q16, up 2 percentage points year-on-year. It added that demand exceeded the 2% yoy increase in capacity, with the number of passengers carried rising by 5% yoy to 6.76 million. AirAsia Malaysia ended the quarter with a fleet size of 77 aircraft.
Meanwhile, AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) said its 4Q16’s overall operating performance has improved yoy, resulting from the successful turnaround initiatives implemented during the year.
“In 4Q16, the company recorded high double-digit increase in passengers carried of 40% yoy to 1.38 million, in-line with capacity growth of 43% yoy. The huge capacity injected during the quarter was to cater demand rising from year-end holiday travel,” it said in a separate statement.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like KUA and MKZ did very badly, in fact the worst performing airports. In 2016. Glad to know the other airports are competing for the top ten in the country.

MKZ grew quite a lot in 2015 when OD open up but many of the routes lack load. The only route i think MKZ can survive on is Pekan Baru most of them are here for medical tourism. Penang on the other hand needs strong marketing, many of the locals in melaka do not know that there is direct flight to penang and kota bharu(Back then)

It would appear that Subang has maxed out its potential and traffic is not growing anymore. There are only so many ATR routes that can be served from SZB and with FY cutting back drastically, the numbers are falling.

I made a quick transit at ICN on both ways during my tecent trip to the US two weeks ago, it seems that Incheon Airport will open a new terminal and a satellite terminal (called Terminal 2) very soon. Construction is almost finished and looked to be ready by end of the year.

 

Current terminal will be renamed as Terminal 1. ICN already has three active runways. They are building runway 4 to the west and another runway, runway 5, to the east of the cargo terminal will be built and become a dedicated runway for freighters.

Korean Air is the one to move to the new ICN T2, not Asiana Airlines. Most SkyTeam carriers will also move to ICN T2.

AirAsia X carries 1.4 millon passengers in Q1



KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) carried 1.4 million passengers in the first quarter ended March 31, 2017, up 33% from 1.055 million passengers in same period last year.


In its preliminary operating statistics released Friday, the airline said its capacity rose 28% to 1.66 million versus 1.29 million previously.


AAX attributed the healthy growth of passengers carried to the strong demand for travel observed across all segments.
