Recommended Posts

Just bought a new DSLR camera yesterday Canon EOS 1000D and 75-300mm lense. I'm still a new learner not very good with the functions yet. Please give some comments for the photos I snapped.

Night shots require long exposure... thus any movement of the subjects will have motion blur.

Very tricky to shoot moving aircraft at night and still get the details...

You can shoot static aircraft if you need the details otherwise I'd suggest shoot the streaks of lights...

BTW... try to shoot with the sun behind your back, otherwise your subject is backlit... not so nice...

The Canon 75-300mm lens (nicknamed Mickey Mouse by some of us hehe) can deliver very good pictures but is slightly tricky to use as it requires some panning for the focus to 'lock on' for moving subjects. For me, a combination of the following settings works quite well for me: ISO200, Av mode, f/6.3 - 8 (depending on your preference). Setting the focus point to use only the centre point might help (it does in my case) as it prevents the camera from choosing any one of the focus points to use.

Using ISO100 can be slightly difficult to get the aircraft sharp, especially at max zoom and the aircraft only occupies a small part of the photo. Perhaps can photographing try from a closer spot? Hope it helps =)

Sorry HanX, i did not know you wanted to shoot planes in the dark.

Its almost near impossible to get a still picture of a moving plane in flight, moreover using a zoom lense. Hoe Jyh's advise is for daylight shooting.
