flee 5 Report post Posted March 7, 2013 KLIA2 Terminal Building 80 Per Cent Completed, Says MAHB KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- The terminal building at the new KLIA2 low-cost airport has surpassed 80 per cent completion rate, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Senior General Manager (Commercial Services) Faizah Khairuddin.Construction of the 257,000 sq. m. KLIA2 is on track, she said, adding MAHB is working with the contractor to make sure the construction and internal works of the terminal building conclude by May 1.Faizah said although the commencement date has been delayed to June 28, the two-month grace period would be utilised by the airport operator to perform testing and commissioning activities. She said KLIA2 would be launched on June 28 this year, the date chosen by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and co-inciding with the launch date of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in 1998.Faizah also said retailers can come in in stages while the terminal building is being completed."According to the timeline we are able to make it for commencement," she told Bernama. She said 82 per cent of the commercial floor space has been tendered, and no more new brands will be entertained.Asked about Malindo Air's plan to begin operations in mid-March, she said MAHB is very happy with the presence of new airlines and welcomes Malindo into the family."I think it's also good for consumers because now they have more choices and I believe that would induce further growth in our passenger numbers," she added. The RM4 billion KLIA2, built to cater for the explosive growth expected in low-cost travel, is envisaged to handle a maximum of 45 million passengers per annum. It will have 60 gates, eight remote stands and 80 aerobridges, plus a 32,000 sq. m. retail space with 225 retail outlets. Wi Ching 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2013 The control tower is still under construction. Would be amazed if the control tower is able to fully operate in June (don't forget they still need to undergo testing & commissioing of the equipment inside the buidling). I can see some piling machine between the apron & taxiway too. Wonder which acitivity is still at 'foundation' stage ? without tower still should be ok, 3th runway only ready on December, plane at KLIA2 still need taxi to KLIA runway to take off. but new tower also used for plane ground traffic control. anyway MAB say KLIA2 will complete at May, than start testing and commission before 28 june. new photo from Binapuri website, photo taken date should be 21/
Kee Hooi Yen 0 Report post Posted March 8, 2013 I am keen to know what type of structure is in the last photo. Is that a service tunnel ? I am wondering why the structure is not finished before the terminal building and contact pier is in place. It is interesting to see how they work around the piles, and also the massive temporary works required. And yet, the opening date is 4 months away...... KK Lee 5 Report post Posted March 11, 2013 Pakatan reps concerned about further delays to KLIA2 Two Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers have raised their concern over the possibility of the new KLIA2 terminal - which is supposed to become operational on June 28, this year - may be delayed further as earthworks to build the runway, the control tower, its systems and apron (ie the places to park the aircraft) are far from completion. This is despite Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd having announced last month that the terminal is 80 percent completed.Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said at best, it would take at least another six months for it to be completed.“The construction cost of the terminal and runway has ballooned from RM1.7 billion in 2009 to RM4 billion and it had been delayed many times.“Yes, the terminal may be 80 percent completed but the four areas mentioned still have a lot of work to be done. Judging by the earthworks, including the soil to the runway from the peat land having yet to be settled, it would take some time, at least another six months, for it to be completed,” said Pua, showing the photographs taken by them two weeks ago.The terminal was originally targetted for completion in late 2011 but its completion has been postponed several times.Following this, Nurul Izzah and Pua have urged Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha to arrange for the MPs to visit the facility. http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/223479

flee 5 Report post Posted March 11, 2013 Like most sceptics, I would not be surprised if another delay was announced. Going by the bad track record MAHB has already demonstrated, delays are to be expected. On the other hand, I would be relieved if the airport opened in June. Lets hope that teething problems are already ironed out, as they now have one full extra month to do so. Again, I would not be surprised if there will still be problems. Until today, the old LCCT is still experiencing problems.

Wi Ching 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) KLIA2 Operational By Early June, Says Abdul Rahim KOTA KINABALU, March 17 (Bernama) -- Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said he is confident KLIA2, the new low-cost airport, will be ready and operational by early June this year. He said construction is over 80 per cent completed with the third runway already paved, adding airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and implementing teams are working day and night to ensure the works are completed on schedule. "Based on the briefings and my working visit to the KLIA2 construction site on Friday, I have full confidence that the high-impact national project will be operational in early June as scheduled," he told Bernama here today. Abdul Rahim said the airport will spur the nation's airline industry and make Malaysia the premier tourism destination in Southeast Asia. "Air Asia and Malindo Airways, which will begin operations later this month, will be KLIA2's anchor airlines, besides other low-cost airlines like Tiger Airways and Cebu Pacific. "The airport's RM4 billion development cost is said to be cheap compared to other airports in the world, the quality is good, and it employs local consultants, project managers and contractors," he said. http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v7/newsindex.php?id=935061 Edited March 18, 2013 by Wi Ching
