Samuel Chy 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 hi all, as per request/suggest by Uncle Pieter, i decided to use this as our "ground breaking" guest! kekeke.... 4pm, Malaysian 3022 request for departure clearance from Ground but request rejected by ATC. because the airport is close until 1620 for the VIP movement. few minutes later, Victor Eight Mike Hotel Bravo request for SDK weather and departure clearance, but they still decided to continue their journey to SDK although warned by ATC regarding the bad weather over there. eventually Victor Eight Mike Hotel Bravo cleared for push back and enter runway via Alpha, vacate via Golf, continue Charlie and hold at holding point Juliet. Victor Eight Mike Hotel Bravo cleared for take-off runway 02........ very early rotation, with P.O.B. 52 only. kudos! no big deals... cheers! pardon the quality, bad weather. Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Apparently HRH's plane didn't managed to touch down SDK due to bad weather. Therefore the visit to SDK was canceled. He went straight back to BWN. Reminds me of the cancelled visit of the Japanese emperor to Ipoh some yrs ago when the IPH airport was closed due to bad weather (fog?)
BC Tam 2 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Should be no problem for Sir Sultan to hop back to SDK this morning and continue with the programme ? It's not like the chap has to rebook his tickets or spend time in any airport holding lounge waiting for weather to clear at destination

S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2009 (edited) Found this old timer's photos from the 1960s. http://travel.webshots.com/album/8341033ADvZJMifHy Featuring Jesselton (aka. Kota Kinabalu) airport, Tawau airport, Tawau aerial shot and Borneo airways from the 1960s. It is amazing to see how Sabah have changed for the past few decades. There is a slide show function too, which helps when you have some 80 photos to go through. Edited February 8, 2009 by S V Choong

Teo CK 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 Apparently HRH's plane didn't managed to touch down SDK due to bad weather. Therefore the visit to SDK was canceled. That's right, the sultan's trip to SDK was cancelled, with the Ketua Negeri, the chief minister n his kaki all waiting at the Sandakan airport!! But guess what? I caught the Royal 767 touching down in SDK on 29 Jan when I was flying back to S'pore!! Doing a trial run perhaps? Was really excited haha.. will upload the photos when i sort them out. S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Thanks for links to those pics SV Never realized before this Kepayan police hq was reclaimed from Kepayan Ridge ! I wonder if I am right in guessing that Tunku's ride in the pic is the Handley Page Dart Herald? (RMAF bird) HPR 7 Dart Herald http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handley_Page_Dart_Herald And what aircraft is this? (RMAF bird) Oh by the way, can't help but to think that Tawau was like a jungle in the 1960s! On my next trip back to Sabah, I shall pay a visit to the State archive in Kota Kinabalu to check out more old pics from the old time. Need to dig up photos, so i can get an understanding on how the cities in Sabah were developed over the decades. Edited February 9, 2009 by S V Choong
