Easy, take the sg. besi highway from south and exit left at the end of the runway towards Istana Negara and PJ,

and take the first left exit to TUDM.

stop at the guard house and tell them u are going to the Air Carnival at Royal Selangor Flying Club.

They will ask you to park your car on the right side and get a pass.

Drive inside the Base about 500 meters and RSFC will be on the left side after a tennis court.

Talked to a friend and they are arranging for a BAE Hawk with Smoke, a Long EZ Jet and an L29 to do an RC Turbine display there. Apparently there's a morning and afternoon slot for them.

The Hawk is something to look at, with detailed cockpit and pilot figures as well.

This will be a big challenge to shoot nice spotting pictures. Not as easy as shooting airliners as these little jets are very fast and agile, and framing them for a good pix is not easy.

No problem. there is also the RMAF museum at the entrance of the base. You can take lots of shots there and also climb to the cockpit.

Lots of historical aircraft there.

There was a big crash when an RAF BAE Hawk crashed and burned just after Take Off from Runway 22 Sempang, TUDM Base this morning.

It happened during the RSAF Airshow. Here are some pictures of the event.

The Flypast event started with a C172 and 4 Eagles doing a flypast

The 4 Eagles did a bomb burst

20081213RC_009.jpg

After that the hawk did its Take Off but I did'nt have time to shoot the Take Off roll.

Immediately after getting airborne, the Hawk was seen banking steeply to the left, with the pilot vainly fighting for control. It ploughed into the ground in a huge fireball.

The Fire Tender rushed out to kill the flames

We quickly rushed out there as soon as the area was secured.

The trail of fireball left a swath of burnt grass

The two pilots remains were collected by Five Zero

Till now the cause of the crash is still unknown. It was definitely not pilot trouble hence it looks like it is technical related the nature of which remains unclear. Not much remains of the debris so the cause will probably remain unknown.

Thanks for the fastest Preliminary Crash Investigation Report ever to come out! Congrats Capt Nik :drinks:

The aircraft that crashed had problems in starting earlier. Pilot reported aircraft was not responding to his control inputs just before the crash. Fortunately no person or other property was hit by the aircraft as it was still low.

Capt Amin helped out a lot in the flying activities that day and brought with him many aircraft from Subang for the static display. Thanks, Bro :drinks:

RSFC is planning to lease an Eagle 150B from CTRM for members' use. If this happens and the aircraft is available then, I suppose we can arrange something. However the cost of the ride will be more than for a C172 seat as only one pax can ride.
