Ryan Soh 3 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) I think AA's opposition came in the form of not granting rights for MH between LAX and MEX. Edited December 3, 2008 by Ryan Soh
yeadrian 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) With regards to MH's EZE route... They fly this sector only twice a week, so what kind of business traffic are you going to attract? Nada... And so how to full up the cabins? By offering the lowest of the lowest promotional fares you can think of. The issue here is not to JNB and CPT, but onwards to EZE. Perhaps there might be a trickle of curious passengers who will fly all the way between EZE and KUL but the trade links between South America and SE Asia is so minimal it doesn't take a scientist to figure out the economics of this route. This is a long and thin route and for an aircraft to be away for that long and the distance involved, think of the fuel burnt (744 not that efficient compared to 777), ground services paid at these 3 stations (non-econimical milk-run style flights are a thing of the past) versus the revenue you can earn from these paying pax. Shave off the necessary and see what kind of yield you are left with. So yes the front end cabins might be 70-80% filled but at what cost?? just out of curiosity - how do we derive that MH always offer the lowest rates on the EZE routes? How do we as forumers get to know insight specifics on route profitability - It would be interesting to learn where to get this information? Classified, no?? The economics maybe very small - but if you say multiple countries to an airliner (with a combined population), then it's a different scale, what about petrogas industry (gateway to brazil), cargo business ?? A lot of Chinese(PRC China) people make use of MH as a carrier to South America as well. Connection to S America is very thin in Asia - niche market for MH perhaps??? Qantas is starting to fly to EZE as well, is it a growing sector perhaps? Edited December 3, 2008 by yeadrian
jysim 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 It's not Buenos Aires,It's Sao Paulo.Korean Air recently launched Seoul-Los Angeles-Sao Paulo route. My apologies, Korean Air serves Sao Paulo, not EZE. Must be studying too much neurobiology yesterday afternoon.
