KC Sim 2 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Once again, it is open house at Paya Lebar Airbase - this time to celebrate the Republic of Singapore Air Force's 40th Anniversary. Regrettably, there was nothing in the flying or static aircraft display to really tell the story of the air force's history. The Apache Longbows once again featured prominently in the air show . . . a pair of them criss-cross within the tight airspace like two pairs of scissors. Another helicopter - TK's favourite - is the Chinook, doing exactly what it did two years ago, and at the same exact spot too . . . yawn. I could have used the image from two years ago and it would not have looked any different. On the ground, an F16 with botox . . . with "666" registration. Possibly one of the last time we will see the F-5 at the open house. As was the case two years ago, the story of the air force's history falls squarely on the shoulders of a trio of retired veterans - a Huey UH-iB, a TA-4SU and a Hunter. More infomation on the open house may be found at http://www.openhouse.rsaf.gov.sg KC Sim

MIR 2 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) Great shots KC Sim.. Wow 2 seater Skyhawk ! Aerial display will be held this weekend. RSAF will be offering joyrides for singapore citizens and permanent residents. Edited August 28, 2008 by MIR
KC Sim 2 Report post Posted August 28, 2008 Anyway, will be off to the airshow again in a couple of hours . . . but just wanted to share the next picture. Those living in Pasir Ris and intending to park their cars without using parking coupons can do so without fear of being fined this weekend . . . because the car park aunty is busy for the entire duration of this RSAF Open House. Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted August 29, 2008 Nice shots of the aircraft operated by RSAF Did you know, all are similar to the (once) ones used by the RNethAF, except the A4 ? In NL, we also operate the AH64, CH46, F16, C130, F50, and used to have the Hunter and F5... Tanker-capability is different, though, with KC135 and KC10
Hoe Jyh 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) Yesterday started off perfectly with blue skies and bright sunshine that lasted through to the afternoon. However, it started pouring heavily by mid-afternoon and the evening aerial display was thus retimed from 5pm to 5.45pm. Despite getting soaked on the way in from the bus stop, the evening sun decided to reward all those who had stayed on with awesome golden sunlight. As the saying goes, its always rain before it shines! Rainbow in the background after the rain. The commentator joked that they had 'indented' a rainbow to keep the crowds happy after the delay. (Indent is a military term for order). After a parachute display by the Red Lions, the next part of the display is a simulated interception of a small unidentified aircraft that had entered Singapore airspace. F-16C 0641 is seen being scrambled for the interception. Taxiing out to the runway. Two views of the same aircraft in one photo! Following which the next part was a mock ground attack. Chinook slinging a pair of light attack vehicles while one of the Apaches patrol in the background. Demonstrating its versatility as a troop transport as well. A pair of Super Pumas also participated in the air display. Commandos rappelling to the ground from the Super Puma. A large amount of smoke grenades were used for this part and depending on one's position, one may not be able to shoot some of the aircraft in the air as a result. The pair of F-16Cs and F-5Es perform a flypast before peeling off sequentially to return to base. The F-5Es were first on the ground and deployed drag chutes to reduce its landing run. Maintaining its nose high up for most of its landing run. The C130 which had transported the Red Lions for the jump earlier performed a short field landing, stopping right in front of the grandstand area. With sunlight this good, I could not resist another shot of the C130, this time showing a front on view. Hope you had enjoyed the pictures!
