  3. Malaysia Airlines moves closer to widebody order Search Malaysia Airlines moves closer to widebody order Adrian Schofield Oct 21, 2018 Malaysia Airlines Bhd. (MAB) is preparing to present its aircraft acquisition plan to its board, which could lead to a major widebody order being placed in 2019, airline CEO Izham Ismail said. The acquisition plan will be brought to the board by the first quarter of 2019, Izham said on the sidelines of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines annual assembly in Jeju, South Korea, Oct. 19. The board will likely consider the plan at either its November meeting, or in January. If board approval is granted, an order decision will likely be made between the first and third quarters of 2019, Izham said. This would likely allow MAB to meet its goal of receiving the first of the new widebodies in 2021. Izham noted that lessors have large aircraft backlogs if MAB cannot obtain its own delivery slots by that date. MAB is believed to be considering a range of aircraft including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s. The carrier previously signed an MOU with Boeing for 787s, but the MOU lapsed in June. http://m.atwonline.com/aircraft-engines/malaysia-airlines-moves-closer-widebody-order
  4. Putrajaya mulls partnership with AirAsia to build low-cost terminal in Penang GEORGE TOWN, Aug 6 — Putrajaya is in discussions with carrier AirAsia Bhd to expand the Penang International Airport (PIA), while at the same time build a new Low Cost Carrier Terminal here. Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who is also the federal finance minister said there is an urgent need to expand the PIA but the federal government and Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) are facing financial constraints. “This forces us to look for new methods such as collaboration with the private sector, Air Asia, to implement the expansion project that will include the construction of a new LCCT,” he said when debating a motion of thanks to the Penang Yang diPertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at the state legislative assembly here. He said this same method will be used for the Penang Port and hoped that all these projects will be implemented as planned. Later, outside the House, Lim clarified that the federal government is in talks with Air Asia currently. “It is almost confirmed, the discussions have been very positive,” he said. He said the federal government had to look at a different framework for the airport expansion project due to the lack fo funds. “This is why we are looking at the 4P: the public, private, professional partnership,” he said. “When we talk about expanding the airport, it will costs hundreds of millions so we have to look at a formula in which the federal government don’t pay for it,” he added. He said the airport expansion project will likely take more than two years to implement but the LCCT might be completed earlier. The PIA recorded 7.1 million passengers last year which is above its 6.5 million passenger capacity. Lim said the number of passengers have increased by 10 per cent in June this year. https://www.malaymail.com/s/1659587/putrajaya-mulls-partnership-with-airasia-to-build-low-cost-terminal-in-pena

PETALING JAYA: Allegations have arisen that Malaysia Airlines (MAS) had waived excess baggage charges of about RM17,000 when former prime minister Datuk Seti Najib Tun Razak and his family flew to Pulau Langkawi for a holiday recently. Screenshots which are now going viral – said to be of the airline's ticketing system – show that the charges of RM17,071.85 were waived for the "head of pool" with the name "MOHDNAJIB Hjabrazak Dato" for flight MH1450 on June 16. 9. https://www.facebook.com/tonyfernandes/videos/1323162101116958/ AirAsia boss Tony Fernandes has apologised for a stunt in which he ferried former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak aboard a BN-themed flight. Fernandes said he thought the move would appease the government, who had been pressuring him and AirAsia over their move to provide affordable flights on election day May 9, and also over AirAsia X chairperson Rafidah Aziz's vocal support for Pakatan Harapan.
  10. Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak returned to Kuala Lumpur from his two-day visit to Sabah in an AirAsia jet featuring BN's election slogan Hebatkan Negaraku (Make my country greater). According to Bernama, the BN chairperson posed for photographs with Sabah BN leaders with the A330-300 aircraft in the background before departing Kota Kinabalu. Najib had arrived at the airport at about 4pm after concluding his visit to Kota Marudu for a meeting with the people. He was accompanied by Sabah deputy chief ministers Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Yahya Hussin, state secretary Sukarti Wakiman and several senior government officers. Also present was AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes. Meanwhile, photographs sighted by Malaysiakini showed that the stewardesses were clad in blue uniforms, which is BN's official colour, as opposed to their normal red uniforms. Incidentally, red is the official colour of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's party Bersatu. https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/423569
