The 2 weeks operational deadline is for cargo or special charters - this the priority over regular scheduled passenger flights. Sendai is the manufacturing base for semi-conductors, battery core, ICs, semi-solid/solid state materials, nano-materials, chemicals and other precision-engineered components - all vital for laptop, iPhone, iPad and other CEs. Although Chinese factories make/assemble the final product, between 30%-60% of its components come from Japanese suppliers. One can expect shortage/delays in CE products for coming weeks or months because many of these Sendai factories were either partially destroyed or fully collapsed. Therefore, in order for those factories to get online again, they need replacement machinery to be air-freighted via Sendai airport.
