  1. If one chooses to be absolutely picky about this DVT issue, you cannot for now even associate the medical problem with long haul LCC flights - simply because the concept is so new and (to best of my knowledge) there has been no incidents since Oasis started service. Reported incidents so far mainly involves long haul flights on "full service" carriers. Ironic yes, but facts are there ! For the extreme cynic, one can even suggest that the expected 'less comfortable' seats on LCC flights could possibly reduce risk of DVT Why ? If you're comfortable, you'll settle down better and move about less. If uncomfortable, you'll tend to squirm about more, in the process exercising those muscles and inducing better circulation. The issue is open for debate !
  2. Still flying afaik ! Actually MH did try KCH/PEN/KCH previously - obviously not too successful then
  3. With a classic like that, all notion of resistance should be abandoned !
  4. Not surprised easyJet has denied they are in talks with the other two parties so far, considering sensitivities that could potentially surface from such a deal - may even have to be subjected to scrutiny of monopolies commission ? Having said that, could also be that Sir Stelios is going in as 'himself' where easyJet would be technically correct in 'not being involved' !! Sir Richard (Mr publicity!) on the other hand has characteristically been less reserved about having his finger in the pie ! It is very exciting days indeed for My aviation scene. BTW, if this deal jadi and AK & co. do make a success of the long haul model, any chance they will swap KUL's LCCT with MTB ? Imagine the change, MH at LCCT, AK at MTB (probably cheapen version !)
  5. Classic chicken or egg scenario ! Do you wait for pax demand to 'grow' until it justifies flights between city pairs or do you start flying the route first and gradually develop the demand ? In case of BKI, doubt very much if there would be as many Taiwanese, Koreans around town nowadays if not for MH pioneering efforts years ago. Hongkies are different cause BKI-HKG was well established decades ago, but still with MH and KA both having a go at it, their numbers speak for themselves (yes, literally !) As for Aussies, their numbers appear less now since AO dropped out - not for want of pax load mind you, but yield I understand. Perhaps BKI-SYD/MEL-BKI is just the job for AK, now they're considering long hauls apparently.
  6. Yes, it is within my living memory too Didn't last very long though - we had plentiful supplies of Thai durian during the period !
  7. Isaac, It was meant as a 'tongue in cheek' blurp ! I reckon the local runway issue is way, way down the list. Primary among which would be pax demand. Secondly, it would be nonsense for MH to sacrifice any of its LHR slots for anything of lower capacity. Having said all that, one must never discount the persuasiveness of political interventions, Mr Idris Jala or not !!
  8. Drat, little chance of BKI-LHR-BKI anytime soon then I suppose !!
  9. I thought they have already started ? And yes, it is / to be flown by the russian bird - as reported
  10. Precisely, and what sort of message you'll be sending out to our 'guests' ? Someone need to relook at their VMY 2007 strategies for sure !
  11. Capt R, Can we expect a TR from you on this then (the AK leg I mean) ? Should be way interesting perspective !
  12. We Malaysian, no need to bother with such triviality. How else are we supposed to express our creativity in car parking innovations ?!
  13. Probably to offer better shielding from weather, particularly rain and snow. Perhaps they could also have escalators installed inside ? But sure is a heck of an expensive alternative to the humble steps/truck
  14. From what I understood and recall, MH was only granted 14 slots at LHR years ago after huge hue and cry. Anything above that, they are using Virgin's rights at LHR. Perhaps it's time to drum up another diplomatic campaign, it has been quite a few years already !
  15. The inevitable parting of ways with Virgin dawning upon MH already ? I could be wrong though
  16. Yes, I believe she is what a pleasant surprise our Capt R must have in store for us then !
  17. Just to share a few pics of Labuan airport when we passed through last week - goodness knows the actual need for an upgrade of LBU !! view from the runway after we had parked, quite extensive works you must agree and at KUL, they are busy getting ready for the whale when (if ?) it enters airline service
  18. They really should give this BIMP-EAGA thing a rest, better still ditch the idea. After years of hooh-hah, what have we got to show ? Just a good excuse for countless officials to go travelling around the place creating the afore-mentioned hooh-hah, at taxpayers' expense mostly.
  19. I thought it's colloquially referred to as "grandfather rights" ?! Understandable that the Boeing press release made no mention of the concurrent LH order for seven A346's
  20. Actually, there have been occasions when the "high expectations" were realized. Problem was sustainability of those high standards. It is a pity
  21. Allows ample for some serious therapy before you put experience into words !! Will try and oblige - which part of cattle class you're interested in ?!
  22. All I can say is - thanks for the advace warning ! Barring unforseen circumstances, am due at BKK with the wife and kids on tow mid Dec and I suppose we should lower our expectations and raise disaster-alert level !!
  23. Don't discount possibility that Daniel might have already polished off a good portion of the meal before remembering to snap a pic of it
  24. Goodness, notice the wrinkles on chin of -AAP ! Is it a normal sign of age or could it be a scar from her incident at BKI ?
