  1. Recycled cooking oil and renewable oil for jet fuel is expensive to produce. Airlines trial it for pr purpose. Unless is mandated by law, few airlines will use it fully.
  2. Except PRC, USA, AUS, JPN, etc few airlines could depend mostly on domestic market. I heard yield has dropped, it would be a challenge for MH to maintain profit like in 2023. If include KUL-DXB, IST, etc, there is fairly substantial volume from KUL to EUR.
  3. https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2024/01/12/anwar-conveys-to-germany-malaysia039s-firm-stance-condemnation-of-israeli-regime At meeting with german mofa; it seems gaza and hamas was more important to pmx than trade. doubt lh was on the agenda.
  4. Given number of EK, QR, TK, EY, SQ and TG daily flights from KUL, demand ex-KUL to EU is not small and sustainable. If MH could feed AUS, Indon, etc pax to EU, daily flight to CDG, FRA, AMS, etc on 788 size aircraft is feasible and sustainable. With multiple daily flight from KUL, CZ ticket price to Japan e.g KUL-HND, etc is very competitive. Understand J class ticket on CZ and MU to N. American and Europe before summer months is very affordable.
  5. Guess QF, AF, etc remembered MH relationship with UA.
  6. Con-sultan is often appointed to justify management unpopular decision or policy. Blame would be on con-sultan rather than the management.
  7. Neither mas shareholders, bod or management have vision or commitment beyond 5 years horizon. What need to be done is political unacceptable. Hence, unlikely to change or improve anytime soon.
  8. Not sure many pax like to take chances.
  9. 80% PLF should be slightly below their breakeven point.
  10. Due to strong headwind, od873 nrt-kul often make refuelling stop at bki. OD should make nrt-kul via tpe or bki. Od873 8.35am departure is a challenge to take public transport from Tokyo to nrt.
  11. TF made his money from the stock market and deals, LCC operating efficiency is largely for analysts consumption. Mas pursuing LCC business model is unlikely to achieve it's objective. Those could afford, willing to pay for FSC and have choice, unlikely to choose mas. Many MNC employees travel via sin. Even GLC preferred ek, qr, tk over MH to Europe. Mas is almost certain is trapped with low yield pax. Typical of for the tree and miss the forest. It seems people at the top don't understand hospitality business or exposed to competitors airlines. On a recent visit to mas lounge at satellite terminal kul. If restaurant in kl serve those buffet food, is almost certain will close down.
  12. Chinese airlines are SOE, are obliged to carry out gomen policy. However, due to their domestic market size, they could afford to loss money on some foreign routes for considerable period of time.
  13. Change of uniform design cost ten of millions RM if not more, is normally coincide with corporate revamp. If history is any precedent, some parties created the opportunity for milking.
  14. Before covid-19, after mas exited European market, mas was vouching to expand greater china routes. With more prc airlines flying to kul, pen, bki, etc from different prc cities and some with wide bodies. Doubt mas could compete in this market and profitable. A GLC CEO was impressed with ximan airlines Vs mas. Last year, I travelled to a few Chinese cities from kul conveniently and cheaper on prc airlines.
  15. The Thai government has announced a tax reduction on local alcohol as part of a wider review of laws hindering domestic tourism and economic growth. Revealed on January 2 at the Government House, Prime Minister Settha Thavisin stated that the restructuring of excise and various national taxes, including reducing domestic alcohol tax to 0%, formed part of their strategy to stimulate the tourism and economy of the country. Ministry of Finance Secretary Lawan Saengsanit reported the department is ready to announce measures to promote Thailand as a central hub for tourism and spending. The initiatives include adjusting the tax structure on alcoholic beverages and local spirits, as well as considering the abolition of duty-free shops at all inbound airports. The aim is to encourage Thai citizens and foreign tourists to spend and purchase more within the country, rather than from duty-free shops. https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-government-cuts-local-alcohol-tax-to-zero-to-boost-tourism-and-economy
  16. 3 piece suit is meant for formal event but mh service is more toward lcc level. scratching my head.
  17. If security is located immediately after immigration; overall queuing time is minimised when waiting time for clearing immigration and security is the same. It is a matter of calculate number of security lanes to match immigration counters. The issue is mahb don't consider ergonomic study.
  18. Before biometric passport was widely used, human trafficking syndicate used this type of airport as transit point.
  19. If there is a will, time and money to make klia t1 more users friendly and operation efficient, there is a way. Mahb could complete satellite terminal 2 before renovate satellite terminal 1. Mahb could assign 2 aerotrain coach for departure and arrival pax respectfully like kix, PVG. At MTB aerotrain station, mahb could use existing restaurants on both sides of platform for ramp to arrival floor.
  20. KUL T1 was designed and built more for aesthetic rather than operation efficiency.
  21. Mh top management and the board lack confidence and competency to plan beyond 5 years horizon.
  22. It seems mahb still couldn't understand ergonomic. Security check at boarding gate remains inefficient.
  23. Maximizing aircraft utilisation is often unrealistic. PK was once known for its maximize utilisation and see it's current state. For reasons, qr, ek, sq, ey, ba, lh, etc don't aim for maximizing utilisation. Pen-up demand of 2022 is unlikely to persist. Was at golden lounge at kul satellite recently, buffet spread is comparable to local 3 star hotel.
  24. Most projects in this country is for those walk in the corridor of power to make $$$. ECRL is single track, there is no cost or time saving to load/unload cargo in kuantan port instead of port klang. Gomen has been given various incentive to set up factory in the east coast in the last few decades.
