  1. MH Is also avoiding Kabul Airspace... Really no other options than what is presently being flown
  2. This is a limited IMAX release in the USA.. Will end up on blurry/dvd after the IMAX run is complete
  3. Shucks.. If that is the case then I prefer we forgo the tourist dollars.. I struggle to fathom this, especially given that Singapore I very much the same mixed identity, cuisine and culture that we are in addition to the modernity and civil order.. Yet tourists flock there (rather expensively)... Our problem is perception... Plus we don't preserve our history very well..
  4. KUL has always had great potential, and this is reflected in the decision of many multi nationals to have operating bases in KLIA, not to mention the likes of BMW, Siemens, Allianz etc.. But when these offices don't grow because of perceived poor economic management and progress, further hampered by inefficiencies and political scandals - what else can you expect? LH leaving again was a long time on the wall.. Their return years ago was coupled with the Brahims-LSG Skychefs deal that has since ended..that proved to be a cash-cow I'm sure (given the talk about corrupt contractual processes that are so widely spread). With SIA, they can plant big metal (the A380 or B748) in SIN and codeshare with SQ/MI.. The same JV applies to Swiss as well, so Switzerland is covered.. BKK remains popular because the Germans absolutely love the place.. Perhaps if Malaysia had the same offerings, it too would be popular and yield wouldn't be so much of a problem. Then again, that in itself is a catch22.. Malaysians are migrating out and some even don't plan or bother to return. If we had a population that broadened it's horizons through overseas travel/eduction and brought those experiences home - we would be a yielding place. But we can't afford that even because the Ringgit is being wrung dry! The picture is constantly being painted that all is rosy, yet we have increasingly polarised communities, increasing levels of religious radicalisation (and not just the always accused-Islam), increasing cost of living, increased security worries, increased competitiveness from Fast rising ASEAN neighbours like Vietnam and Myanmar... While still thinking our standard of English and tertiary education is the best in wherever we feel without spending more money AND time on education and national unity... How like that? And then we need to sew up cabin crew uniforms so they are less revealing, depend on middle-eastern donors and think about armor playing our cars and homes to beef up against petty theft and crime that ain't so petty, and often murderous at the hands of drugged up addicts because the solution to that problem still puts a bunch of self-proclaimed big shots out of pocket for their own vices and wants.. A once great country sits to the north of our Borneo shores, once the epitome of modernity and forward thinking. Visit the place today and you will see the effects of what an exported or emigrant workforce (professional and skilled) does on the local economy and way of life. Learn from history, adapt our thinking, live and work together and enjoy the fruits of our labor - one which with a simple change in mind, may actually be quite effortless. Then maybe we can enjoy shooting more and more colourful Tails at our airport, and silently be proud when all those foreigners see and photograph our Wau Bulan on their shores. LH for now, via BKK or SIN. Until perhaps the A350... Even then a big maybe..
  5. Any pics of the now busy T1 ramp??
  6. Capt Radzi, Stay positive, Sir! Opportunities do exist both regionally and a little further west. Safe and happy landings, always!
  7. Now can understand why MAHB wanna extend the MTB 😝 The fact that MHZ needs to consolidate operations at the MTB goes to show that behind-door infrastructure at KLIA is in need of upgrading and replacement.. The baggage system has been a perpetual bane.. The Emirates deal.. Good to know that there are willing partners. QFA managed a stellar turnaround 18 months after their partnership started
  8. Reckon there is more to this than meets the eye.. Have heard rumours that DNATA is also eyeing to take up MAB Ground Handling.. Remember recently SATS also launched a bid for Brahims.. It seems the pie is being carved and served up at KLIA.. Hopefully the remaining slice isn't just only "humble"
  9. Rayani Air... Flying Fox Airways... We have to be careful too.. Next year DCAM faces the ICAO audit.. Learn and adapt
  10. Would give more narrow-body bays. One of the remotes on either side (B54 and A54) would have to be sacrificed for another taxiway to join the cross taxiway F in ur example.. Plus it creates a bottle neck as only one taxiway in the apron.. Pushback during peak would be a bitch.. Just look at WSSS.. All terminals have bottlenecks that cause pushback delay during push periods.. It's like the amazing race to call for push before the adjacent! The alternative is to have narrow-body taxi lines abeam the main taxi line to accomadate multiple pushbacks. Hint hint Jani!
  11. That's good news, Jani! Hopefully some nice garden greenery in the terminal to re-emphasise that original Airport in the Forest-Forest in the airport theme.
  12. Guess it costs too little to be practical and build Sat-B.. A third and separate terminal at high costs will grease more palms.. Sorry, but the concept sounds really idiotic. It is frustrating and shameful to see good infrastructure and forward planning going to waste..
  13. Perhaps this is just talk of the eventual construction of SAT-B. Worthwhile now if construction and material costs are expected to be less soon - although at the rate the MYR is going, tough to say for certain. SAT-B has in recent years been envisaged as a potential base for all OneWorld traffic, with the remaining SAT-A for SkyTeam, STAR and non-alliance carriers... Would be a smart move, especially if MH is consolidating its position as the best regional network and frequency for OneWorld members to capitalize... The biggest problem with that concept is QF hub at SIN, with 3K providing the regional network... including KUL... Better for the likes of BA, QR and even CX or JL to capitalize on for the smaller regional destinations..

  15. Turboprop is more suited for SZB as the airport is considered noise sensitive due to the built up areas surrounding. Personally, the turboprop choice at SZB is fantastic and can be expanded to cater to the increased O&D traffic ex-KL - the lack of rail infrastructure in the past further elevated SZB position as a domestic hub. Domestic services from KLIA should primarily be for Sabah/Sarawak and for interlining/transfer pax arriving internationally to major destinations in the peninsular. Additionally, the airport is perfect for executive jet travel, VIP movements and for military/police operations. As a major MRO facility - it too is ideal, but what happens when (if) MH moves out would be interesting. The infrastructure is ideal for a third party to move in and take over. Back to topic: Yes, TR is finally headed to be under the complete sovereign helm of SIA. This is much needed, although financially it will take time to consolidate... (Bonuses-be-damned?!) I would expect a further Scoot-Tiger consolidation post takeover. Perhaps even a rebranding of the latter into the former. Ultimately, the SIN hub choice will remain número uno given the regional geo-political and economic landscape.. KLIA and Malaysian based carriers stand to lose the most - especially with the lack lustre approach to infrastructure building (KLIA2) and upkeep (KLIA1). Simple remedy for a simple problem yet always over complicated by greedy people with KPI's and deep (but empty) pockets
  16. Don't forget guys, the Airlines that invested in the A380 dream paid a heavy price when the airplane was so delayed. In that time, as has been pointed out, the proliferation of the ME3 and substantial global economic events (near catastrophes) have taken place. Today, the A380 is a little bit of a lame duck... The B748 too is a failure. The trijets have departed, and now the quads are on the way out. The tango has just two engines.. But sadly, with so much competition, profitability prospects are dampened. Most big profits are some sort of accounting magic including write ups (or downs in the case of losses) - QANTAS and JAL a perfect example. They still have very severe cost pressures under the rosy profits of late. EK, it's a matter of time before the dessert sand dunes move on. Basically... The A380 is a big VW CDT vehicle! False promises and aspirations But I still wanna fly it
  17. Cost is merely one aspect. When you talk of Yield, you must also think in terms of revenue. The A380 has low CASM because of higher number of seats! Basic fractional maths - increase the denominator and u lower your result. If you can't fill all those seats, then ur Realised costs are higher. Factor in revenue (RASK, RPK), which in an aircraft comes from utilised payload. The payload capacity between a 77W and an A388 is very very marginal (less than 5000kg advantage for some configs). But the A380 burns more fuel, has four engines and can carry less belly cargo (a real money spinner for airlines). when you can't sell out an A380, you then lower fares to fill seats and inadvertently lower revenue and thus yield. Combined with higher operating costs - you back urself into a corner. The A380 is an ideal people mover for big charter jobs like the Hajj. Personally, I think this is a business MAS can penetrate given its long standing relationship with Saudia and serve markets greater than its own.At other times of the year, the aircraft can be used for charter to major events (Olympics, football, tour operators). A fleet of 6 is ideal to manage such traffic. Airlines ole EK are really in a fix IMHO a with what to Do with this gas guzzling, poor payload big birds! Fantastic airplane system wise - just too big for the level Of competition that exists today.
  18. ermmm.. its a bit more complicated than just CASM.
  19. Takes more than a burst tyre to excite a Kiwi! Anyway, reckon most of them are glued to their TVs with the Rugby World Cup!
  20. A pinch of salt is good! Brings out the flavour! Just gotta Rachel Ray that shite and toss some over the shoulder for good luck!
  21. Twin engine Aircraft are certified to fly on a single engine.. In the Mahan case, they were fortunate that the engine was ejected aft through the nacelle. In 1992, an El Al 742F departing AMS experienced a different kind of engine loss, when the entire pod/nacelle and pylon were ripped off the wing causing damage to the other engine, wing and controls. The reason for this was metal fatigue and the shearing of the fuse pins that attach engine pods to wings..
  22. Used to live in Seletar. No problems ever getting a cab. If Airport becomes An RPT again, taxied will return.
