  2. Runway 3 expansion and associated taxiway system including two End-Around Taxiways (EAT) wrapping around 02C/20C at both north and south ends are the major works underway now, in addition to soil works for the future terminal 5. Expect the new 02R/20L to be operational 2018.. once so,02C/20C will close whilst major tunnelling works are made to integrate present airport precinct with future T5 precinct (likely to be rail/skytrain + airport service vehicle tunnels and not civilian traffic tunnels). 02C/20C will open once these works are complete and in time for t5 phase 1 eta by 2023 iirc.
  3. The issue here is probably, can they get them at the right price and with the correct product... after having spent much money and fanfare on the new J class retrofit, a standard offering should be the way
  4. Kevin McAllister?? Hopefully the "Wet Bandits" (laterknown as the sticky bandits) don't spoil the show
  5. Turning pad is suffice.. parallel taxiway is a luxury at some of these airports and an excuse for cronies to make money
  6. Financing la.. Even the Sultan knows better than to self-finance close to half-a-billion purchase... He's obviously good for the payments.. Hopefully Wells Fargo survives their recent public trial
  7. Would love to see a SIN-CGK-PER flight that arrives into PER circa 8-9am, then departs back mid morning at 10:30 vv.. Slots at PER only constrained by the first wave of return FIFO flights.. Otherwise, it's an international lull period for PER, barring the QF flight to SIN.
  8. A big difference between MH and SQ is the extent of customer base in Indonesia, the latter airline having a very large number of customers that are PPS status, that otherwise fly from CGK-SIN-Australia. It will be interesting to see - clearly this flight, if successful, will end up with later additions to the A350 fleet, with slightly varied configuration from what is available on the A350 now.
  9. SIN-CGK-SYD vv. Estimated Start Date: 23 Nov 16 Subject to regulatory approvals. B777-200ER -Mo-We-Fr- Watch this space - more announcements expected in due time.
  10. That's a negative. Painting is at an extra. Scheme and livery can be extremely expensive. I think if you buy off the plans, you get a euro-white scheme with black lettering for the registration. Even adding stickers is provided at a cost. When you buy an aircraft at "list prices" it is the bare shell of the aircraft, floors, basic safety equipment, flight control systems and basic avionics (certification standard) packages. Interiors, avionic upgrades and IFE/Galley systems/lavatories & associated plumbing are all extras.
  11. They were very upfront. Had family travelling on these flights back in April - flights were retimed and email/sms notification was sent early plus a reminder one week before departure dates.
  12. L625 is covered by the ADS-B as well - so they are using the VHF... for that airway, the challenge for VHF communication is usually with Ho Chi Minh, when approaching the FIR boundary with Manila. This is alleviated by use of CPDLC communications. With MNL, HF communications are usually established first, until we are in range of Manila North on (iirc) 119.1 or 119.3
  13. The airways you mentioned are now covered by ADS-B from Singapore, and the area is under VHF, "Singapore Control" 134.35, made possible by a relay station installed on Con Son Island in Ho Chi Minh FIR. CPDLC WSJC not required. On the other hand, the airways N884 and M767 are covered only by ADS-C and no VHF station - so Singapore CPDLC "WSJC" and/or HF 8892/6556 are used. Hope this helps.
  14. Hopefully will be preserved with the new Bandar Malaysia terminus... This is really a worthy piece of history
  15. This 744 is becoming the bane of existence for MH.. I hope the CoA is still valid, or at least can be extended to fly her back to KL if indeed the deal has fallen through
  16. http://centreforaviation.com/analysis/cathay-pacific-high-cost-and-pilot-constrained-promotes-regional-unit-dragonair-to-reduce-costs-298296 Says it all... Don't be blinded by politics and politics alone.
  17. if the plans are true, they still have to transit if their origin or destination is anything east of Perth.
  18. Anyone thought of the pressures on the other side of the coin? Continued and further looming industrial dispute with its Pilots http://m.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/economy/article/1987151/cathay-pacific-pilots-reject-new-roster-system-and-ban-new And the airline has categorically stated that it will use Cathay Dragon to circumvent such limitations in the main line to continue regional growth and sustainability http://m.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/economy/article/1940169/cathay-pacific-use-dragonair-get-around-industrial-dispute This move seems introspectively tactical more so than an indication of political and economic assessment of the Malaysian market - the latter surely playing some form of role still - just questioning the size of the pie slice.
  19. We got multiple changes coming up.. SIN-DME-IAH shall cease, replaced by 5x SIN-MAN-IAH effective 30OCT16 As such, SIN-MUC (7x) and SIN-DME(5x?) will remain direct services SIN-BCN-GRU shall cease, with frequency on SIN-MXP-BCN increased from present 2x to 5x weekly from 22-28 Oct. Must see from NW schedule if BCN receives a direct flight once more - Rumours are yes with the A359. New SQ11/12 service opb 77W SIN-NRT-LAX (D) New SQ7/8 service opb 77W SIN-ICN-LAX (D) Aircraft rotations are interesting, with actual rotation for each flight being for example SIN-ICN/NRT-LAX-NRT/ICN-SIN SIN-CBR-WLG starting on 21Sep16 SIN-SFO (ULH) in October opb A359 Expect JNB/CPT to eventually be completely taken over by A359 ops No seasonal flights to ATH this year, ahead of ramp up of Scoot Long haul services. Expecting Scoot to op to ATH and possibly FCO (not sure if SQ will maintain existing services in addition to Scoot) if SQ drops FCO, expect a daily MXP. The following are only speculative rumours of SQ operations: SIN-BCN-ARN SIN-DUB SIN-AMS-EWR (Second daily flight/Star connections) SIN-ARN-YYZ SIN-YVR SIN-IKA
  20. Good to know the moral police for the politically correct are out and in force. To clarify further and before the "you're unqualified and insensitive" remarks start, have been through the loss of family from cancer and participated in the euthanasia debate, and am from a family with strong medical background. No mention that cancer treatment is "straight forward" either, please understand the minimal-rigidness approach one generally uses when adopting an analogy. Quite open-ended and often used to "humanise" events or incidents that may be otherwise completely.. If you couldn't tell it was an analogy, I hope V Wong has clarified it for all. Also if you couldn't tell it was personal opinion, apologies if my sign off was in anyway ambiguous. "Sunday single-maly dribble" should read "my personal opinion", or rather more "a personal pontification" In other news, CAPA reporting that MH potentially expanding A330ceo fleet and ridding the A380 is imperative to returning to sustainable profits. I believe that article is in the category of "expert opinion".
  21. Where they're from is a matter of opinion.. For example, someone from any of the carriers u mentioned might tend to replicate rather than create, leading to further inefficiencies and comparisons in terms of performance, which is unfair given the different prevailing circumstances and economic conditions.. What MH might profit from and create a niche from are bold, never seen before ideas - creativity that builds branding, reliability, respect and harnesses collective but connected ideas and programs to grow the airline naturally. There is local talent, foreign talent - bumi or non-bumi.. but at the end of the day, a leader is only as good as his/her followers believe. Making sure the foundation of employees are looked after, needs to be the next step forward. That fat as they say has been trimmed, but the knife left many bare wounds, that have been at times rubbed with salt. The underlying tone of employee morale at MAB is one of uncertainty and disbelief in the plans that are laid forth to so-call rescue the company. The turnaround plans at MAS/MAB are akin to repeat treatments of Chemotherapy, targeting the bad cells, but never ridding the body of its cancer.. And worse yet as the therapy draws on, the body and will to survive is weakened. Calls to pull the plug, amidst times of pure agony and frustration for those within and close, scream louder. Euthanize? I believe the creation of MAB was a so-called attempt, but as the days and months roll on - it seems that the dosage wasn't enough, and the cancer that prevails is only getting stronger and more crippling.. In the mean time, the Surgeon General has to turn its attention to the other patients in the ward, and over-crowding results in our sick patient being asked to live out their last days at home, whilst healthy /functioning body parts are put up for sale, like Engineering, Ground Services, training academy etc... In the meantime, we hope that whatever plans emerge, the aim and the effort is pure and simple. To make the airline a safe, cheerful, meaningful and rewarding place to work, and to bring the world, once more, to the doorstep of Malaysia. My Sunday Single Malt dribble, complete.
