  1. MAB's first Boeing 737-8 Max is on its way home! https://www.flightradar24.com/MAS5041/
  2. You may be right. I was looking at the first flights for B737Max and only 9M-MVD (the second MH Max) has made its first flight. There were no other 9M reggos that took their first flights recently. https://aviation.flights/boe/737/66354
  3. Wouldn't it be better to deploy the aircraft to higher yield routes? Although secondhand, this aircraft is perhaps MHs best (and newest built A350) and I won't be surprised if it will also be used on the Japan routes after the initial deployment to MEL.
  4. OK FR24 corrected their info - they had 9M-MAB earlier! Track it here: https://www.flightradar24.com/MAS5051/
  5. I remember that Indonesia requires an airline to own at least five aircraft before they can even register as an airline. Maybe CAAM should consider this measure too, as it requires the company to have higher capital to start up an airline.
  6. Bad management has consequences. It is good that they collapsed before more people are impacted by them.
  7. Bill on merging Mavcom with CAAM to be tabled next year Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says this will be a long process, not only in terms of amending the law but also combining the operations. https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2023/10/23/bill-on-merging-mavcom-with-caam-to-be-tabled-next-year/
  8. It may not be a like for like comparison. I think our back of the envelope calculation of MyAirlines avertage ticket price includes taxes and other fees, not just the fare.
  9. CAAM should make it a requirement for airlines to purchase insurance to cover refunds to pax in event of business difficulties. It would be like professionals who take up professional indemnity insurance in case they are sued for professional misconduct or malpractice.
  10. Capital A stands to benefit most from MYAirline suspension, says Maybank IB https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/685988
  11. I can foresee that this aerotrain issue is going to go on forever as there will be improper or non existent maintenance after the new system is installed and commissioned. KLIA lacks strategic planning. Does anyone know what MAHB's long term plans for KLIA are for the next 10 years?
  12. Their financial position is still very shaky - but they do have scale. Sometimes, banks have no choice but to keep them afloat because if they collapse, the banks will be hit harder!
  13. I think this is only valid if the government has failed to provide basic infrastructure - like in the interiors of East Malaysia. MASWings was established to provide that. MAVCOM is tasked with regulating the aviation industry - that means it must look after the interests of everyone, from the suppliers to the consumers. Airlines collapsing soon after starting operations show that something is fundamentally wrong with their business model. MAVCOM have to study the business models of airlines in their AOC approval process. They also need to study the management structure and competence. I would have thought that after the Rayani Air debacle, they would have learnt a thing or two. However, it looks like that was wishful thinking!
  14. MAVCOM needs to seriously review future AOC applications - MyArilines has done more harm than good to the Malaysian aviation industry. Irrational competition is bad for the industry as a whole while healthy, sustainable competition is the way to go.
  15. This was the OP of this thread - it looks like Julius was right in being sceptical about this venture.
  16. It seems strange that a start up airline has run out of cashflow not even one year into its operations. It shows that their financial planning and management is not up to scratch. Should we be also doubting the quality of this company in other areas of its operations?
  17. I think most of Malaysia's traffic is within Asia with UK and Australia the only significant medium and long haul markets. It makes sense to mount more services to markets that have greater demand. MH should not return to the old "prestige" route mentality!
  18. MYAirline says CEO Rayner Teo steps down due to health reasons https://www.nst.com.my/business/corporate/2023/10/964653/myairline-says-ceo-rayner-teo-steps-down-due-health-reasons
  19. I think they are desperate to get more of their planes flying and they need the working capital to do so. Getting out of PN17 will happen if they can generate more revenue and profits. However, competition is hot and they may be facing irrational competition again. Capital A is still a risky counter to invest in.
  20. I think D7 will probably have less seats than AK - we may see seat pitch increase from the 29 inches that they have on AK. I am not sure if there will be any premium seats on their XLRs. If they have those, we may see D7s A321s having around 200 seats.
  21. The problem with MH is that they are opaque and we don't know how much cargo it is carrying and whether the route is profitable and sustainable. Remember the days when MH had B777s? Who would have thought that most of their routes were running at a loss? They are flown for reasons other than good business!
