Except the MD-11's are a pain in the butt to mainatain that's why the 340 sold well. If MH was that desprate they could have a fleet of b757'S for Asia Pacfic B777's for long haul and B747'S for trnk and it would be a good idea if Mas Cargo order's B747-8I
Maybe they should convert some of MAS' old 744's to F configuration. Or they can buy those parked MD-11's from Transmile.
-
Maybe that's what Heathrow needs let the airplanes land on the taxiway, so there is no arguments over the 3rd runway
-
Maybe because they alreday had some deposits with Boeing and not airbus so it makes sense to order Boeing.
According to the Dutch website "Luchtvaartnieuws" (Aviationnews) Philippine Airlines will announce an order for a number of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft shortly; These will be delivered in 2009. The airline has choosen this aircraft over the Airbus A340-600, says Flight International on basis of "industry sources". PAL would buy two 777-300ER's directly from Boeing, while two more will be leased from GECAS. Also, an option of two more has been placed with Boeing, replacing a previous 10-year old order of four Boeing 747-400's. Due to large financial problems, PAL has never taken up these aircraft. The airline had tried to cancel this order previously, but to no avail.
The current wide-body fleet of PAL consists of five Boeing 747-400's and twelve Airbus aircraft: eight A330-200's and four A340-300's.
Surprising, more so, that they've to introduce another cockpit-division and not opt for the commonality of the current Airbus 330/340 fleet <img src="http://www.malaysianwings.net/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

Air Canada jet diverted over beer theft
(AFP) – 6 hours ago
OTTAWA — There was no fire, engine woe or medical emergency when an Air Canada Jazz flight made an unscheduled stop in western Canada late Tuesday: the pilot diverted the jet over a beer theft, police said.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable Steve Holmes told AFP that a passenger had stolen beer from a beverage cart and tried to flush the empty cans down the 50-seat jet's toilet to dispose of the evidence.
The flight from Vancouver to Fort McMurray, Alberta was diverted to Kelowna, British Columbia, and police arrested the 23-year-old suds thief.
The man faces charges of causing a disturbance on an aircraft, Holmes said.
Federal police also interviewed two other passengers who were not charged, Holmes said.
They told local media they had been drinking prior to take-off.
"We have a zero tolerance policy as it concerns unruly passengers," Air Canada Jazz spokeswoman Debra Williams told online newspaper Kelowna.com.

Kyrgyzstan: Boeing 737-200 are temporarily banned
Kyrgyz aviation banned the exploitation of Boeing 737-200 aircrafts. On October 10 such decree was issued by the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) of Kyrgyzstan.
This decision is reasoned by more frequent problems in Boeing 737-200 aircraft engines, registered in Kyrgyzstan. The ban is effective until the real reasons of engine incidents are investigated.
Boeing 737-200 of Kyrgyz ITEK Air Company crashed on August 24, 2008 near Bishkek. 65 people died in the accident. Photo by Ferghana.Ru news agency. The details are available here.
According to the press-service of Transport and Communications Ministry of Kyrgyzstan, CAD department for aircraft maintenance is assigned to run unscheduled inspections of Boeing 737-200 aircrafts, registered in the country, as well as check such organizations that provide technical service to Istok Avia, Itek Air and Max Avia. The users of Boeing 737-200 must provide appropriate documents, legitimizing the performance of technical service, engines and airborne auxiliary power in all accordance with technical maintenance program, approved by CAD.
Earlier, Boeing 737-200 aircrafts, owned by Kyrgyz air companies, were listed in the air accidents three times. The last one took place on October 9 in Islamabad when Kyrgyz aircraft had to return to airport due to engine problems.

That's what I thought the athour should write AK
Let's make it clear, it's not American Airlines (AA) we're talking about here...

Anything other MH, I rather sacrafice maybe 50 dollars to go on SQ,QF or EK than MH.
I think I differ in the opinion that Mh will have hard time filling their A380's. Lets take a scenario :
If you were flying on the kangaroo route and had 4 choices (MH,SQ,QF,EK) and they were all similiarly priced which one will you take?
you will more likely to drop off EK and QF off your list.More likely you will fly MH or SQ
-
will the parts be expensive on the planes as they are on the cars

200 birds sucked into jet's engine
DWARFED by the jetliner, they look little more than a smattering of black dots.
But this flock of birds could have brought the plane crashing down in seconds.
They flew straight into the path of the Germania airlines flight to Kosovo as it took off from Dusseldorf airport with 80 on board.
‘It was like a scene from the Hitchcock movie The Birds. One second all was clear, and the next thing you saw were these birds swarming over the plane,’ said an onlooker.
It is thought more than 200 starlings were sucked into the right engine as the Boeing jet approached 200mph.
Others dented the fuselage but thankfully did not pierce it. Their splattered remains could be seen on the plane later.
‘The pitch of the engine said it all,’ said plane-spotter Juergen Kienast, who took these dramatic pictures.
‘It was like sticking a bit of metal pipe into a blender.’
Once airborne, the pilot reported engine damage and circled for almost 45 minutes before landing safely.

That doesn't matter, it depends on the product so what MH have a product just better than the american product which is like a Hyundai, but Singapore Airlines is Just like a Mercedes Benz.
I would want the benz so that is why they can fill their 380's so well
IF SQ can fly a full A380 7 times a week to MEL, there is no reason why MH wouldnt be able to fill theirs 3 times a week.

plane was a b757-222 w

If I was MH I would order 20 350-900lr's, 25 350-1000 HGW and push Airbus to put more range in the 1000. Put them on routes like
900
Johannisberg/Cape Town
Port Louis
Los Angeles via Honolulu
New York via Honolulu
Guangzhou
Paris
Rome
Dubai
Cairo
Istanbul
Frankfurt
Nairobi/Addis Ababa
Stockholm
Brussles
Bern
Athens
Vienna
1000
Amsterdam
Beijing
Brisbane
Melbourne
Tokyo
Taipei
Hanoi
Ho chi Minh city
Osaka
Seoul
Keep 2-4 dugongs for the Hopping Mad (Kangaroo) route so MH still retains there market share, Singapore, Bangkok, kota kinablu, penang, kuching,Hong Kong to max time and meccah.
This gives Air Asia a run for there money as the flying public will want to fly the dugong and put the fairs to malaysia at air asia prices plus 30rm as the public will pay a premium just to go on the 380.
This will help bring back MH back to no.1 malaysia carrier.

Japanese media Manichi on 24SEP09 reported a list of 50 routes that JAL plans to suspend in the next 3 years. It is canceling 21 International and 29 Domestic routes. The cancellation also sees the pull out for 9 International destinations and 7 domestic ports.

Why does it carry a Germany flag on its tail ?
The reason is it has to compliy with local German law that states all german airplanes must have the german flag (Not like the germans want a british flag on there regestered aircraft).
