  1. Court orders Air Canada nut-free zone January 9, 2010, 7:09 am Canada's transportation regulator has ordered Air Canada to accommodate passengers with severe nut allergies by seating them in new nut-free zones on aircraft. "The agency has determined that a buffer zone, including an announcement within that zone, is the appropriate accommodation for persons with disabilities due to their allergy to peanuts or nuts," the Canadian Transportation Agency said in its ruling. The agency had received two complaints from passengers with nut allergies since 2006. One of the complainants had hidden in the airplane washroom for 40 minutes while nutty snacks were served to other passengers on a flight from Frankfurt to Toronto. In another case, a traveller was removed and was rebooked on another flight two-and-a-half hours later in which "all nuts were removed". Other passengers on the second flight were also asked not to bring nuts onboard. In its ruling, the federal regulator noted the nut allergies in these cases were so extreme that nuts did not have to be ingested. Rather, the mere presence of nuts in the immediate environment was "enough to cause concern". The three-member panel deemed these allergies to be tantamount to an impairment or disability, which airlines must accommodate. Air Canada argued it should be up to the passengers to take precautions against exposure to nuts. It does not serve peanuts on flights, but does serve smokehouse almonds, cashews and other snacks which may contain nuts. "If a passenger is allergic or sensitive to products that may be found in the aircraft cabin, it is the passenger's responsibility to bring the proper medication and to have the proper protection," Air Canada said in its submission. But allergy specialists said peanut proteins have been found in commercial airline air filters, demonstrating they may become aerosolised in flight and remain suspended in aircraft cabins. The regulator said creating a nut-free buffer zone is the best solution, and gave Air Canada 30 days to come up with a recommended size of the buffer. 15. According to the London office of Air Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwean flag carrier has suspended scheduled flights to Singapore since late August 2009 in favour of Kuala Lumpur. It now flies a once-weekly scheduled flight to Kuala Lumpur every Friday night from Harare and takes off for Beijing on every Saturday morning. The destination move of Air Zimbabwe has indeed caught Sunseekers Travel, GSA of Air Zimbabwe, and Carnival Travel's Singapore subsidiary, unaware for at least three months. Local staff were noticed quoting Singapore - Beijing fares of Air Zimbabwe tickets to walk-in customers through late August to November and Air Zimbabwe's Boeing B767 aircraft could be seen taxiing in Changi Airport during these months, possibly on a chartered basis. Changi Airport has not been notified of Air Zimbabwe's complete withdrawal of flight services to Singapore. The web-site of Changi Airport still lists it as an active flight operator. Air Zimbabwe has plans to restart flights to Guangzhou via Singapore in 2010. The London office of Air Zimbabwe says the GSA of Air Zimbabwe in Singapore can only sell tickets of the regular return Harare-Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur-Beijing flights to the Singapore travel market until further instructions from Harare. In recent years, Air Zimbabwe has frequently revised its flight schedules to overcome the exorbitant fuel prices and aircraft shortage problems including suspending flights to Dubai, Bangkok (which was added in 2005 after reducing frequency of its Harare-Singapore-Beijing flights from twice-weekly flights to a once-weekly flight) and Guangzhou. Air Zimbabwe has restored flights to Dubai from Harare. China Eastern Airlines said in a statement the average basic price of the aircraft in total was around $2.6 billion, based on the relevant price catalogue in 2007. It added the planes were due to be delivered from 2011 to 2014. Shares in EADS, the European aerospace group which owns Airbus, were down 0.1 percent at 13.61 euros in early afternoon trade. Both Airbus and its U.S. rival Boeing (BA.N) have been working hard to secure orders in China, where demand for planes is set to increase as the country's economy continues to grow. Airbus' latest Chinese order comes a week after the CFM International aero-engines joint venture of French group Safran (SAF.PA) and its U.S. partner General Electric (GE.N) won a multibillion dollar deal to supply engines for China's future C919 plane. [iD:nLDE5BK02N]. China also has ambitions of its own in the aviation sector. In 2008, Beijing merged its own two state aircraft makers, AVIC I and AVIC II, to pool resources for a jet project to help wean itself from reliance on Boeing and Airbus. EADS shares have risen around 13 percent since the start of 2009, having fallen 45 percent last year. From http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLDE5BR0R520091228?type=marketsNews

  19. Sorry wrong spelling I actually had few brochuers on the 777 fleet and few IFE mag and muhibah mags MAR 08 how they were talking about the777 coming in. If anybody wants a mag I can sell
  20. Except why did MH order the 380 in the first place when the only reason is LHR. If Mh wants to make money it either have a product like SQ or be like BI very cheap fares and have better presentation, service than the US bunch and that is currently MH as bad as UA, AA, US. If Mh wants profit and a brand name either ditch 380's and 330's or if they want to be like SQ or BI keep the 380 and converge the 330 orders to 350's -lr, 1000 and 900. Or even ditch the MOU and go for the 787-8 and 9 and lease some 777LR so they can start Jfk and LAX and include a service to Brazil. Sorry don't know much about the 350, I'm a Boeing man.
  21. Could it mean BI is going to fly to nanyun instead of PEK
