  3. Hey amzari, you have pics of last Sunday's KCH DHL culprit here! .naim
  4. If you are refering to the planes in my pics, then I guess it was due to limited space and first-come-first-served (the lucky ones get the bridges). When the airport was reopened at 12-ish, there was an influx of delayed flights arriving, so much so that the whole place was congested (like a bus station!). I saw 3 AK flights arriving one after the other just before 2pm (2 from KUL, 1 from JHB), and 2 of them had to queue for almost 30min along the taxiway before gates were made available. For us passengers in the terminal, gate assignments were changing all the time. .naim
  5. When I was at Beijing airport last April, I counted more than 100 construction cranes dotting the area on the other side of the runway - construction of new facilities? .naim +++ China airports clear for take-off Plans for a new international airport being built in Guangzhou China's airport building boom is set to accelerate China plans to spend 140 billion yuan ($17.4bn; £9.96bn) over the next five years on its airports as its expanding economy fuels demand for air travel. The country predicts its fleet of airliners will reach 1,580 by 2010, up from the 863 flying currently. This is expected to accelerate to 4,000 commercial jets by 2020. Airports at Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou will be expanded to continue their roles as China's main hubs for passengers and cargo, China says. Other airports earmarked for expansion include those in Shenzhen, Chengdu, Haikou and Xian. "By 2010, the mainland will have about 186 airports, up from 142 currently," said Gao Hongfeng, vice-minister of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). Chinese airlines carried 138 million passengers last year, up 15.5% on the year, while the amount of air cargo carried grew by 13.8%. According to the CAAC, passenger and cargo traffic will grow at an average of 14% each year until 2010, before slowing to an annual rate of 11% in the years running up to 2020. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4758358.stm

  8. Done at a number of airfields already. Try this: http://search.earthcam.com/search/ft_searc...=1&term=airport or browse: http://www.flightlevel350.com/ Btw, I have a good airport video clip here (3.6 MB) - can try to ID the airport and the planes too. http://rapidshare.de/files/14403468/1114807216.wmv.html .naim
  9. It has 3 levels. These are the exterior airside pics. Gates 5-9 already in use. Gates 1-4 still being worked on. Some interior airside shots. Full house, thanks to 9M-TGH. .naim
  10. I spent many times driving around KCH last weekend, and I found the wind consistently coming from the west, so planes were landing on R25 (i.e. from left in pic, taken 27/2 morning). The stricken DHL overshot the end of the runway to the right. So maybe tailwind was not a major factor. Btw, when I was shooting pics at the glassy end of Gate 9, I heard this loud voice behind me. I turned back and came face to face with tycoon Ting Pek Khiing shouting into his walkie-talkie. He was obviously upset with the DHL plane and said to me KCH should be expanded further, but no space for 2nd runway. We had a short chat and he left to meet Alfred Jabu in the VIP lounge. Only later did I find out that his company was the main con for the KCH upgrading project! When KCH was re-opened just after 12 noon, these were the first ones to take off. It was one busy airfield! 12.42pm. 9M-MMI to BKI/CAN. 12.45pm. 9M-MGA to SBU (I think). .naim
  11. Try free ones here, courtesy of the US govt: https://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/index.cfm .naim

  13. I was at KCH this morning (Monday 27/2/06). My flight was delayed by 5 hrs. Dang! Anyway here are the pics: 0938hrs. That's the yellow culprit: 9M-TGH 1022hrs. Towing any moment now. 1034hrs. Free at last. 1052hrs. On the way to the cargo area. Mayhem in the terminal. .naim
