  1. http://www.shanghaidaily.com/nsp/Metro/2012/08/10/Widebody+passenger+planes+bump+at+Pudong+International/ A TAXIING Malaysia Airlines passenger plane bumped the tail of a China Eastern Airlines plane waiting on the taxiway at Pudong International Airport yesterday afternoon. No one was injured. China Eastern flight MU583 from Shanghai to Los Angeles was waiting to take off about 4:30pm when a wing of the Malaysia Airlines plane bumped the left elevator on the tail of the Chinese plane, the China Eastern said later yesterday. The top of the wing of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was broken off and hung on the tail of the China Eastern Airbus 340-600, according to pictures posted by passengers on the Internet. Both planes are wide-body passenger aircraft. "It is like a sudden earthquake," said a passenger surnamed Chai on the China Eastern plane. He said the plane was shook strongly when it was bumped and the shaking was more severe in the front of the plane. The Shanghai-based airline dispatched another plane for the flight and moved the damaged plane for inspections and repair, China Eastern said. The China Eastern flight was due to take off at 3pm but had yet to take off as of 9pm yesterday. The East China Regional Administration of the Civil Aviation Administration of China has sent a team to investigate, an official said. The operation of other flights at the airport was not affected. Malaysia Airlines' flight MH389 was heading to Kuala Lumpur. The company could not be reached for comment. A civil aviation expert said the bump is likely to have happened at the beginning of the taxiway, when the Malaysia Airlines plane was turning around. He said the damage to either plane wound not be severe. "The pilot of either plane could have misunderstood the order from the air traffic controller and turned into the wrong taxiway," a local pilot told Shanghai Daily yesterday. He said the incident is rare.

  6. PETALING JAYA: Eaglexpress Air Charter Sdn Bhd, a new air charter airline funded by investors from South Korea, the Middle East and Malaysia, will make its debut with a holiday charter flight from South Korea to Malaysia next month. Spearheading this new airline are two friends: Capt Azlan Zainal Abidin, formerly with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and South Korean national Capt Shin Man Soo. They hold 20% and 40% equity stakes respectively in the airline. The balance shares in the company are held by Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat and Datuk Wan Ismail Abdul Rahman (formerly with Malayan Banking Bhd and Oriental Bank), with each holding 20% equity stakes. Aseh is executive chairman of Eaglexpress and Ismail, the deputy chairman. “It is a 60:40 Malaysian-South Korean joint venture. We will fund the venture and also have some institutional investors from the Middle East and South Korea that have invested in the airline,” Azlan told StarBiz but declined to say how much has been invested by the parties. The paid-up capital of the company is RM1mil. The airline would be offering air charter services globally and would lease three B747-400 aircraft from Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd. “Eaglexpress Air Charter’s existence and entry into the aviation industry is in response to the Government’s Economic Transformation Programme. The global open-sky policy and the vibrancy of the air charter business will enable Eaglexpress to contribute to make Malaysia an important aviation hub. “We will serve the untapped and under-served market, which has not been fulfilled by the scheduled airlines,” Azlan said. The airline has a contract to fly holidaymakers from South Korea to Malaysia in February and also has arrangements with some agents in Thailand and Singapore to fly people to perform the haj and umrah in Saudi Arabia. “We are in talks with agents and airlines in this region and actively pursuing talks for the haj and umrah traffic in Indonesia too. “China is also a market that we intend to venture into,” Azlan said. He added that the airline was not competing with existing carriers as it merely offered air charter services to tour agents, companies and even airlines. It sees itself complementing AirAsia and MAS. “We will not sell air tickets but we can even lease crew and aircraft to airlines in need of space,” he said. Over the last two months, the airline has been hiring pilots, president commercial, flight captains, first officers, cabin crew supervisors, flight attendants, flight despatcher, sales and marketing manager, and technical service managers. It has set up a core team of 100 people and would be using the KL International Airport as a base for its operations. New charter airline takes to the skies next month
  7. Flew to LAX a couple of times as a passenger and the last 2 flights had loads of burmese refugees being brought to the US.Rear economy section was full of them. Ex-LAX, those going to kl numbered 60-80 people(when I counted at transit in TPE)? the rest were going to TPE or joining in from TPE. Sans refugees, I think the flight would have been 65-70% full.
  8. Been to a couple and I agree with NAIA and LAX. JFK wasn't so bad. In fact I think the same guys who designed the queues in Disneyland did the security lines at LAX as well cause just when you think you're closer, you realise that there's more. Aside from some cheery folk in NAIA, I found the place horrible.
  9. Thus why its called the Boeing Sky Interior.
  10. Now MH, why can't you make something as inspiring as this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VHVSCesfB0

  12. How interesting. 1Malaysia & OneWorld. Next thing you know next year 9M-MXA would have a Oneworld Logo next to 1Malaysia.
  13. If I remember correctly, they serve it during school holidays. Not an everyday thing.
  14. I think the MX_ series are configured 16C 144Y and the leased ones from Babcock and brown have 16C and 150Y.
  15. My flight to Jakarta left the gate 3 hours late. Sight to behold seeing 11 aircraft waiting at various points for takeoff.
  16. I don't think they're old pictures. Looks like the mock up cabins in the safety drill area. haha.
  17. Here's the full article. More fun aboard starting 2012 Published: 8/12/2010 at 12:00 AM Newspaper section: Business "Passengers flying Thai Airways International (THAI) starting in 2012 may be forgiven for thinking they are flying with Singapore Airlines or Emirates Airlines instead. Semi-private suites in first class, flat-bed seats in business and television screens for each economy class seats - in-flight features that passengers of the world's leading airlines have taken for granted for quite some time now - will become THAI's new hallmark. The flag carrier is spending billions of US dollars on a radical makeover of its seats, in-flight entertainment and other passenger amenities as it tries to play catch-up with the competition. THAI executives admit the airline's current in-flight products that many passengers joke about such as rolled-up video projector screens hung on the walls are obsolete and turn away many potential travellers. "The current in-flight products are indeed our weak point. They're inconsistent from aircraft to aircraft, route to route, and they impede our ability to move up the ladder of the world's best," said Rangsiman Mokkhasmit, THAI's director for product development. The in-flight product revamp, now in progress, will be instrumental to the national carrier's ambitions of entering the top five of the Skytrax rankings and enhancing its appeal in the premium long-haul segment. THAI ranked ninth in the Airlines of the Year 2010 survey, up from 10th in last year's poll conducted by the British aviation research body. "Despite not having modern in-flight products, THAI is already among the top 10, so it should not be too difficult to climb up to the top five any time soon," said Mr Rangsiman THAI last rolled out a cabin upgrade, along with an overall improvement plan, in 2004, but that was based on technology from earlier in the decade due to the long lead time in receiving approval and procurement. THAI’s new business class is a slightly toned-down version of Emirates’. The airline lags behind the world's other major airlines, especially the cash-rich Middle East carriers, which have been going the extra mile to lure passengers, particularly premium ones, with the latest offerings while charging the same or even lower fares. For instance, while other leading airlines now offer full-flat seats and 17-inch TV screen with more than 600 channels of entertainment (in the case of Emirates) in business class on medium- and long-haul routes, THAI's long-haul passengers have to be content with tilted "angled flat" seats and 10- or 15-inch screens with limited entertainment options. "Even though our new in-flight products are not the latest and do not have any new trend-setting features, they don't really look too bad," said Mr Rangsiman. "Passengers should be pleased." The plan is in line with THAI's policy of being a "premium service network airline" in the same league with other major carriers including Lufthansa, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Emirates. THAI's new first class will feature full-flat seats in a mini-suite format, largely resembling what Lufthansa offers, with leg rests and seat-back screens of at least 23-inches in size. The new business class seats and arrangement resemble a slightly toned-down version of Emirates', with a minimum 15-inch screen. Premium cabins will also feature a sharply improved audio-video on demand entertainment system offering up to 100 movies, 150 TV programmes and 500 CDs along with quality noise-cancellation headphones. These are all a far cry from THAI's current offering of 48 movies, 45 TV programme and 80 CDs. And featured in the new economy class will be individual TV screens of at least 10 inches in size on the seat backs. Future premium passengers will soon be able to make on-board calls from their mobiles, access the internet and watch live TV with USB connectivity. The in-flight product revamp, which will also feature an overall "look and feel of Thainess", will be introduced to not only THAI's new jetliners, but also the existing fleet under a retrofitting programme that may last until 2023. The package of new features will herald the arrival of a fleet of new wide-body jetliners - six A380-800 superjumbos and seven A330s - to THAI's fleet starting in February 2012. Work has already begun on existing aircraft." Flew in one of their A300s lately and it was like flying in the 80's.
  18. Really now? " The chief executive of Malaysia's AirAsia is considering a possible takeover bid for airline Virgin Atlantic, the Sunday Times newspaper reported. Skip related content Tony Fernandes, who runs Asia's largest budget carrier by fleet size, has renewed his interest in the UK airline after previously considering and deciding against a bid, the newspaper said in an unsourced report. Any deal could be worth up to 1 billion pounds, it said. No one at Virgin or AirAsia could immediately be reached for comment. Billionaire Richard Branson has a 51 percent stake in the airline he founded in 1984. Singapore Airlines paid 600 million pounds for a 49 percent stake in Virgin Atlantic in 2000. The airline said earlier this month it had received several "lines of enquiry" about tie-ups with rivals after it hired Deutsche Bank to assess the aviation market. It said the bank's review was expected to last for several months and did not name those interested in a possible tie-up. Increased competition from low-cost airlines, weak demand and high fuel prices have combined to squeeze many carriers in recent years. The low-margin industry has gone through a period of rapid consolidation and analysts believe larger carriers such as Virgin Atlantic need partners to stay ahead of the competition. 19. I see a new cash cow. Manila-Hong Kong/Singapore.
  20. Guess we'll be seeing a spin of the PR at MH. World's best cabin staff to "Staff Service Excellence Award - Asia". And "World's best economy class". Though I honestly thought that SQ would take that too.
  21. Looks like it. Up to 29 with 15 A330s + 10 and 2 A332Fs+2. Malaysian Air bestellt bis zu 29 Airbus A330-Maschinen
  22. My link From The Star Published: Thursday March 25, 2010 MYT 3:38:00 PM Plane catches fire just before landing in Penang By ANDREA FILMER andrea@thestar.com.my GEORGE TOWN: A Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Boeing 737 from Singapore caught fire during its descent at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas near here Thursday afternoon, prompting an emergency landing. MH674, carrying 83 passengers and seven crew members, was scheduled to land at 12.15pm but lifted out of its descent when a series of small explosions was heard from the right side of the plane, followed by flames. According to passenger accounts, the pilot circled the airport once and managed to extinguish the flames before landing safely at about 12.30pm. Nobody was injured in the incident. Penang International Airport senior manager Abdul Wahab Mohd Yusof said the runway was closed for 20 minutes while the aircraft was towed to the bay. “The runway was reopened at 12.50pm,” he said.
