  2. It looks like the MH/EK Partnership is live from the EK Side. Bookings can be made to include domestic destinations in Malaysia now. e.g. AMS-KUL-TWU as below. But, no codeshare or skywards miles or status earned for the domestic legs for the moment.
  3. funny considering both stuff.co.nz / theage.com.au / smh.com.au are all under the same Fairfax Media umbrella.
  4. MAS in 'Brand Refresh' - NO rebranding/change in livery "Every few months there will be something new, and that will be framed really as the new brand," he [Mueller] said at the airline's Kuala Lumpur headquarters on Thursday. "We will start in the first quarter of next year to introduce these improvements." Mr Mueller said the airline would not be changing its brand name, in part because it was too expensive to repaint all of its aircraft. "I would not call it a hard rebranding," he said. "It is really more a brand refresh." Change in focus from Kangaroo Route to North/South Focus "I believe that [Kangaroo route] market is gone for people like us or Singapore Airlines or Garuda [indonesia] or Thai [Airways]," Mr Mueller said. "It is firmly in the hands of Middle East carriers. But also we recognise China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, India, are growing and that is where we will focus. We going from a northwest/southeast focus more to a north/south." source : TheAge
  5. I suppose these will be replacements for the remaining 6 B772ER's to serve AMS/AKL/CDG?
  6. Source : Australian Business Traveller (http://www.ausbt.com...re-airbus-a380s) Malaysia Airlines will double the size of its nascent A380 fleet with plans to buy six more of the superjumbos. The airline this morning announced it had secured a loan for up to A$1.65 billion to fund the purchase of six more A380s, along with two A330-200s. _______________ Sorry for the formatting guys, posted using my iPhone!
  7. "Malaysia Airlines is on schedule to join the oneworld alliance by the end of this year," the airline said in a statement today, MAS spokesman Ismadi Yusuff confirming to Australian Business Traveller that the airline "will join one world in Q4." [from Australian Business Traveller 15/05/2012]
  8. based on the decisions made by the various Management teams at MAS over the last decade or so, i wonder if they do any extensive research at all...
  9. Agreed, but if its 3-3-3, the there will be 2 people (either window seat) who is faced with climbing over 2 people in order to get to the aisle, as opposed to only one person who has to get past two people in a 2-5-2 configuration.
  10. Maximum Range of the 772ER's is 7,700NM (14,260KM) Maximum Range of the A333X is 5,669NM (10,500KM) So the A333 will not be replacing the 772ER's on the long haul routes to Europe, more likely that it will replace the current Flights to Australia (BNE/PER/MEL) along with flights to Regional flights, South Asia, China.. So it is looking like a good purchase for MH, since they need the new aircraft as soon as possible, especially when you compare the current offerings on the A330 on medium haul flights such as Perth with that of its counterparts in SQ and CX.. The B772's are still going strong, so they can go on for a couple years more, until the delivery slots for the A350 etc start to open up. No real point ordering an airplane who's precise specifications are as yet unknown right now when it will only be delivered 2013 (A350) hope their IFE and cabin is updated with these new birds!
  11. out of interest, whats the construction going on under the LRT link from the MTB to the Satellite?
  12. did they bother with winglets for the 738??
  13. Thats hte Unique customer number no? much like How MH is 7x7-xH6 and so on, so the last two digits are specific to the airline that ordered them
  14. and i believe if the IFS is a male then he is in a charcoal-black coloured suit? or at least this was the case in my recent flight AKL-KUL
  15. i reckon this must be a drill. as if it wasnt, and there was real damages, loss of life etc etc, this would be on a.net, tv channels, and last but not least, we'd have the gurus of the obs hill tell us frame by frame what went wrong? but then again, i could be wrong. hahahahha

  17. That plane was carrying NZL-84 and NZL-92 from Auckland to Valencia where they will be warming up and subsequently competing in the 32nd Americas Cup in Valencia. (The America's Cup is the most famous and most prestigious regatta in the sport of sailing, and the oldest active trophy in international sport, predating the FA Cup by two decades and the Modern Olympics by 45 years. ) - Wikipedia The two yachts being carried belong to Emirates Team New Zealand, who are probably the front runners to take back the Trophy from Alinghi after defending it in '00, and losing it in '03 GO ETNZ! anyways. thats me for now. haha.. good catch btw
  18. FAX given long-haul rights By WONG SAI WAN PETALING JAYA: Fly Asian Xpress (FAX), the rural air services operator, has been given rights to operate long-haul flights to destinations in Asia, Australia and Europe. The announcement by Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy confirms The Star report on Jan 1 that AirAsia boss Datuk Tony Fernandes was putting together a team to launch a long-haul budget airline operating out of Malaysia. Chan said the Government was confident this new transportation strategy of having a low-cost long-haul airline would ensure the success of the Government’s plan for a major budget airline hub. He added that such a hub would greatly benefit our tourism industry. Fernandes has a 50% stake in FAX, while the other two shareholders are AirAsia deputy chief executive Kamarudin Meranum (30%), and former AirAsia chief financial officer Raja Azmi Raja Razali (20%). Raja Azmi is the chief executive officer. AirAsia and FAX are expected to make a major announcement today on a commercial tie-up between the two airlines as well as on the status of negotiations with Virgin group’s Sir Richard Branson and EasyGroup's Sir Stelios Haji-loannou. The Star reported on New Year’s Day that three of the world’s main low-cost airline personalities would team up to start a long-haul budget airline. The company, to be based in Malaysia, will offer airfares as low as RM100 for flights between China and Malaysia. Sources said Fernandes, Branson and Stelios were in discussions to form this alliance for the world’s first low-cost global network. The joint venture would first fly between Kuala Lumpur and destinations like Manchester in Britain, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and Amritsar in India. 21. More low-cost carriers may fly to Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia may allow more Asian low-cost airlines, including Singapore’s Tiger Airways and Thailand’s Bangkok Air, to fly to the country to boost Visit Malaysia Year 2007. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Adnan Mansor said the government was in talks with Tiger Airways to fly to tourist destinations on the east coast of the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak. But Tiger Airways was unlikely to be allowed to fly the lucrative Kuala Lumpur-Singapore route, he said. "We are persuading the Transport Ministry to let Tiger Airways fly to some destinations in Malaysia that are lucrative. "They are still negotiating. We are also talking to Bangkok Air because they want to come to Malaysia." He said Cebu Pacific recently launched flights from Manila to Kuala Lumpur. A second Philippines-based low-cost carrier is likely to start operating soon from Davao to Sandakan in Sabah. Thai AirAsia, the Thai affiliate of low-cost carrier AirAsia, would launch flights from Bangkok to Langkawi on Jan 6, he added. Adnan also launched a new double-decker bus service for tourists yesterday. The KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus service, which plies a 22-stop circuit around the city, covers areas of interest previously not accessible by regular bus services. The bus will take tourists to 42 major attractions from shopping centres and buildings of historical importance to parks, libraries and museums. Passengers can get on or off the buses at any of the stops along the way. A pre-recorded tour commentary will be played throughout the ride. Passengers can use headphones to listen in any of the eight languages available. Each passenger will be given a booklet which contains information and a map of Kuala Lumpur. Tickets are valid for 24 hours and are priced at RM38 for adults and RM17 for children and senior citizens. Children below five can ride for free. For MyKad holders, the ticket costs RM19. Syarikat Elang Wah Sdn Bhd is operating the service. The bus service runs between 8.30am and 8.30pm, with a frequency of 30 minutes. Syarikat Elang Wah managing director Syed Azhar Syed Nadzri said initially, the company would run four buses but would increase the number to 10 by the middle of next year. Tickets can be bought at hotels, selected travel agencies, on the bus and via the Internet. During trial runs until tomorrow, the public can ride the buses for free. Copyright © 2006 NST Online. All rights reserved. ____________________ Interesting This, Firstly, The Hop On-Hop Off Bus seems to be a good idea, a similar system is in operation in singapore, which allows for tourists to sight-see at their own leisure, as they can just hop on the next bus which comes at regular intervals Secondly, If Tiger air is unlikely to be allowed to fly SIN-KUL, that means that Air Asia will not be allowed to fly KUL-SIN, which thus means that Tony Fernandes's plan for chapter two might not come to fruition. However, Letting Tiger Air fly routes such as SIN-KCH, SIN-BKI, SIN-PEN, SIN-LGK would definately boost tourist numbers for VMY 2007 On Question, is there enough demand for Davao-Sandakan?
  22. No new routes for MAS next year PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia Airlines will not add new routes to its current network despite 2007 being Visit Malaysia Year. Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy said MAS would instead look towards boosting connectivity during this period by negotiating with other airlines on a code-sharing basis. “MAS is still in the midst of its turnaround plan and its main priority should be to consolidate its financial position. That is the most important thing,†he told reporters here yesterday. “I am told that it will not be expanding its network for VMY2007 but is talking with other airlines such as Alitalia and another from South Africa to code-share. “Once these have been finalised, MAS will make an announcement.†MAS is expected soon to unveil its plan on enhancing connectivity for VMY2007, which the Government hopes will draw some 20.1 million visitors to the country.
