  1. Having worked on the early msn aircraft for a major manufacturer, i also can testify that at least till msn25-50, mechanical/design issues will still be in effect. Design optimization ensures that the subsequent models are better, solving early issues found by the launch customer. In my particular baby, only msn80 is considered mature.

I'm still doing an undergrad in engineering , but I believe the issues you are referring to are confined in the manufacturing process ?

can't quite imagine changes - however minor - being put onto a finalized design. The amount of paperwork of even adding a screw feature must be humongous !

  2. MAHB plans to get new low-cost terminal job done well

SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has not given a firm timeline on the completion of the new low-cost terminal, KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2), but stresses that it will get the job done well.

Managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid said the minister had mentioned that the target for completion was October 2012.

“What is important for us right now is to get it done well. It's a very big project. Of course, as you can see there are delays here and there but we will managed that. At the end of the day, we will make sure that it get done well,” he said at a briefing after the company AGM yesterday.

Chairman Tan Sri Dr Aris Othman said: “It (KLIA2) is bigger than the existing KL International Airport (KLIA). KLIA caters to 25 million (passengers per year) capacity while KLIA2 will be catering to 30 million.”

On the cost of developing KLIA2, which is estimated at RM2bil, Bashir said there were a few packages to be tendered out. It is believed that one of the tender is for the construction of a new runway for the proposed airport.

MAHB had earlier awarded a RM997.22mil contract to build the main buildings of KLIA2 to a joint venture between UEM Construction Sdn Bhd (UEMC) and Bina Puri Holdings Bhd.

Aris said MAHB would be announcing “very soon” if aerobridges would be built at KLIA2. He said there were different views on the usage of aerobridges at KLIA2, adding that aerobridges were vital especially passengers safety as well as for security and weather reasons.

“Now, we have (proposed) 68 contact points. Some of these contacts points will need two aerobridges. If we fill up all, there will be some 80 aerobridges at KLIA2 and the bigger plane will need two,” Bashir said.

MAHB estimated its base passengers at 60.2 million in 2014.

Bashir said the airline industry was cyclical. “Conservatively, we will reach 60 million passengers and the optimistic target is 72 million.”

MAHB also aims to achieve earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation and returns on equity of RM1.1bil and 10% respectively.

Currently, there are 58 carriers including cargo airlines operating in Malaysia. Two more airlines will start their services here this year.

On airport tax, Bashir said the aeronautical charges were decided by the Government. “Of course, as an airport operator, we will like to increase it. Our charges are the lowest in this part of the world.”

MAHB's current passenger service charge is RM51 for international travellers and RM9 for domestic travellers at all airports. Low-cost carrier terminals charge a lower rate of RM25 per passenger for international travel and RM6 for domestic.

Bashir said MAHB had been pre-qualified to bid for the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Saudi Arabia and had received some proposals, including from Indonesia and China. However, it could not make the proposals public yet.

I like the "no time frame because we will do a good job" , begging the question ... Did no one take notes while building KLIA 1 ? They are after all building on the SAME plot AGAIN.

  3. just wondering out loud here... if a hole occurs during landing approach, would it not cause a sudden cabin pressure lost? or perhaps due to the almost equilibrium aircraft and atmospheric pressure, the puncture did not activate any alarms.

Must be very near landing strip to have fired a shot at the aircraft and yet it did not triggered any alarm.. still, its still a speculations..

pressurization is a constant process, so such a small hole + low attitude (below 10k feet) would not cause the rapid decompression seen in movies.

the stray bullet seems plausible but then the hole is on the top of the plane ? a falling bullet would not have enough velocity to penetrate the fuselage, let alone a shotgun slug !

  4. I liked this livery when I first saw it on MXA. On a bigger aircraft like the A333, it looks even better. Like it or not, we will have to get used to this livery as more and more new aircraft will be delivered in it and old aircraft will be repainted when the time comes....

Personally I'm neutral with this livery. Just not something I'd point out to someone while waiting at the airport.

Anybody knows the interior of this aircraft ? :)

  5. The following was discontinued from EY :(

    Cotton towel then paper towel.

Bailey Irish cream, JW Black label

Souvenir e.g. playing cards, pen, aircraft model, etc

Open sandwich on KUL/SIN (before shuttle flight was introduced)

    Steak on KUL/LHR, KUL/SYD

    Comb

Only found the souvenirs missing , apart from that all the rest were available on KUL/LHR leg last week (including the sandwich :p)

A complain would be the cabin crew did not know any other combination of cocktail apart from the generic few already on the menu ...

  6. In most countries, retired PM is a civilian; don’t have privilege to use gomen’s facility. However, if they are appointed to company, they will use the company’s facility as per contract.

just wondering, why is everyone leaving their shirts untucked ??

I don't want to sound like a school teacher, but certainly it's courtesy for the public to dress appropriately ?

  7. When MH were in charge of the Rural Air Services (RAS) in Sarawak & Sabah, how did they choose the pilots for this ? I'm quite sure not many ambitious pilots would take to flying the Fokker 50 or Twin Otters.

And being from the area, I've had to use the F27's & F50's for 20 years now :) so just curious about how thing worked before (and maybe now with the ATR ? )

The Fokker captains were usually at least 40+ and not mainly Malaysians (Japanese,Philippines,Dutch etc) but First Officers were always young Malaysians. Not quite sure about the Otters though since I'm seldom on them ...

  8. I'm not targeting those that will compare against kampua/laksa. If they compare, they're not into flying. Rather I'm targeting those that do not want to go to GGIFA / Australia / NZ and can't spare to go off for months at one shot to learn flying. I'm sure I can find some.

Those who are rich, won't be free enough. And those who are free, won't be rich enough :pardon:

I'm certain there are a couple of people in KCH willing to do this, but will it be enough to sustain the club & maintain your planes ?

  9. Close to none. Just quote someone an hour rental, fuel price and landing fee ... I think they'll be comparing how much kampua/laksa they're able to get with that money !

And if there are people rich/free enough to go for a private PPL , they could get GGIFA from Bintulu to come everyweek or so and pick them up :p Or rather, they will already have licenses from Aust/NZ which I heard is a hotspot for M'sians to do their lessons.

  10. great shot guys !

too bad MH didn't take the chance to set a new standard though. I see the "simplicity" aka cheapness in the new livery now, blue in front and red at the back to match the cabin :nea:

and those seat dividers in C looks like they came from a 90's Mercedes. Plain bulkheads, unchanged toilet ...

why couldn't they keep with the old batik/floral style that fits in with the Malaysian identity ?

  11. Not new at all.

Firefly had it some time ago. There is even a housing developer ad on the seat tray.

I agree, Firefly even has them on the storage bins !

Thankfully MasWings dosen't have this, and the drop down screens only have Tourism Malaysia videos giving a hint of gov intervention (yet still classy :) )

Hopefully MH dosen't try to emulate AK's strategy this time ....
