  1. The DCA has also done an extremely poor job in redrawing the departure and arrival procedures. Eastbound SIDs for Runway 33/15 involve a lot more track miles. The STARs for WMKK/KUL were always unnecessarily complicated with too many transitions. They just got more complicated.

In an age when there are serious issues regarding climate change, carbon footprint and permanently high oil prices, these flaws are unacceptable. What's more, WMKK/KUL doesn't suffer from land scarcity, terrain, highly populated surroundings, noise restrictions, proximity to a neighbouring airspace, military airspace, etc. In many countries, these and many other factors place lots of restrictions on air traffic management. What the DCA has done for WMKK/KUL is totally incomprehensible.

The opening of klia2 and Runway 33/15 was a good chance for the DCA to simplify the procedures and improve air traffic management. What they've done is complicate it further and made it more inefficient. The UK's CAA and NATS would be shocked to see this. DCA's planners only need 5 minutes in Heathrow to realize what they could have done.

Just wondering if anyone knows what would the norm be to change arrival/departure procedures and/or (I believe it has happened too with the opening of klia2) add new waypoints? Can DCA unilaterally change or create them, or are there the rules of international governing bodies that need to be observed?

    Cheers!

  2. On top of the hardware already being discussed, revisit core values that once instilled a clear sense of pride among the crew to be part of MAS and from which we consistently got great service.

Any airline can offer money, but the sense of being part of your airline - your flag carrier - gives you a distinctive edge in terms of service.

  3. Just wondering.....how is it that Malindo Air's ATR72s show up on FR24 when Firefly's don't? Do some ATR72s have ADS-B, and others don't?

(As always, many thanks in advance.)

P/S:- Anyone notice FR24 picks up heli's too these days? ^_^

  4. See the eagle head on the tail? There's a reason for it.

Hicom reported directly to Mahathir and he wanted to call the new airline 'Pacific Eagle'. They did a search and found out the name had been taken up, so a senior guy at Hicom thought up the name 'AirAsia'. The old man grudgingly agreed, so in compromise, they use the eagle as the logo. By the way, the Hicom guy, the original founder of AirAsia, is now living in Singapore.

Doc, do we know why Tun wanted to call it Pacific Eagle? Did that have anything to do with a target market?

  5. I arrived beside RWY15 just after 5pm, only to see the RTAF C-130 lining up.

I deduce that must've been you guys, then, I saw - with the cameras and "elevation extension" devices? - and walkie-talkie too? :D

(Myself, but a casual spotter - I do head down there once in a while, when I can. For someone outside the industry, seems like a lot of good fun.:good:)

  6. Apart from their Nos.1 and 2 and a myriad of delegates, Gazprom even flew in ice-skaters for their exhibition stand at the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC) earlier this week - didn't quite realise they needed two (three?) planes though!!
