I did KUL-DPS-KUL yesterday, just hours after the incident. I flew the same airways as flown by the ill-fated QZ, just a few hours later.

The squawk code is generate by system, as identity to a target appear in radar screen. Each squawk code assign to an aircraft, the aircraft will use the code till it land at destination then only the system will “recycle” the squawk code again.
Squawk code 21xx and 26xx are allocated to Lumpur ATC and not sure why Singapore ATC system sometime unable to accept squawk assign by Lumpur. Therefore Lumpur will assign another code for them and aircraft will change before entering Singapore airspace.

I believe the aircraft lost contact somewhere between Kuala Lumpur-Ho Chi Minh FIR boundary. If it true, this area still have radar coverage from Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and even Thailand I believe.

As of 19MAR12, Sabre’s timetable listing is showing Air Koryo changing operational days on 1 of 2 weekly Pyongyang – Kuala Lumpur service, effective 25MAR12.

Transaero Extends Seasonal Kuala Lumpur Operation till late-May 2012

Update at 0820GMT 26MAR12
As per 26MAR12 GDS timetable and inventory display, Transaero is extending seasonal Moscow Domodedovo – Kuala Lumpur service until the end of May 2012. The airline will maintain 1 weekly frequency from 25MAR12 to 26MAY12, on board Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Seasonal service to Singapore has already ended since 25MAR12.
