  1. if MAB does split its 25 aircraft orders to be split between AB and B, then its like going back tothe old MAS days. It will never be abe to gain from the economies of having only one type of widebody fleet and will have more costs of having 2 different types of aircaft with different crew training and even on maintenance, parts and spares. Even crewing will be not so felxible as there be AB and B crews instead of haing just one fleet type of aircraft. This be also compromised by having even 2 types of engines if it chooses AB and B and associated higher costs of maintaining 2 different spares. Looks like MAB havent learn from the past MAS issues of having small different types of aircrafts and even different engines forthe same type of aircraft and hence MAB will never be as efficient as any othe better run and profitable airlines.
  2. but thats just 4 additional orders by JAL - they have 49 787s on order and have received 35 787s so far. Hence MAB MOU of 8 787s is really nothing at all. Even if MABorders all 25 787s as its widebody plane, it is still small compared to even JAL.
  3. It makes more economical sense for MAB just to stick to one fleet of aorcraft for its wide-body twins and gowith the A350s as it will already have the 6 leased A350s. This will have more economic impact of having some economies of scale for parts, spares and maintenance as afterall MABis looking for a just 25 aircraft - and to split this into 2 different types of fleets ie AB and Boeing is not that good an idea as then would require 2 different set of crew qualifications and training and a whole lot more. For MAB its just best to stick to just one type of widebody twin.
  4. MAS orders are not that big with only 8 possible orders, unike othr airlines like SIA with A350 orders. Doubt Airbus will really be played by MAB although AB will give some discount.
  5. MAB did not confirm any order for the 8 787s. It is just a MOU only and is nothing concrete. It is not an order.
  6. On the 8 787s its just a MOU only and is not really should even be counted as a real intent to purchase. But MAB should just stick to A350s instead of having another type of aircraft for this small fleet as it will meant increased costs in manpower training, having another set of spars and parts for maintenance and even for crew. This is like back to the old MAS days of having too many types of fleets and worse even with different engines for even the same type of aircrafts. MAB wide-body aircraft fleet is not that big a fleet.
  7. do not think Scoot is able to make it on the SIN-KUA-SIN route, as Air Asia have tried it for some time and given up and believed Malindo too did that for a short while. Just doesnt have the market for this route.
  8. do agree with you ont his as the pilot should not have said alledgedly as such as quoted by few passengers and shuld have calm down the passengers and reassure them that they should be ok instead of creating unnecessary worry for the passengers. Pilots are trained well for such situation and for an single engine out operation. But the pilot did do a good job of landing the aircraft safely without any incidents.

The CEO should just quickly lease 4 to 6 used A330s as soon as possible as already it is short on this aircraft capaciity and esp when there are unexpected maintenance and technical issues as have seen over the past week and resulted in cancellation and long delays to other flights. For its ordr ow wide body planes, MAS should just stick to either a combination of A330NEOs and A350s - and should not get even get a few B787s as it will introduce another aircraft type into its fleet and it is not big enough to warant any economies of scale in training and parts and be more costly instead to just maintain a few.

  11. more like MAB have not even decided on the type of aircraft that they wanted for its widebody. But MAB orders would not be that many for Airbus or Boeing to really offer better pricing and delivery.

Malaysia Airlines should have quickly leased 4 to 6 A330s instead of waiting for Alitalia's A330s - as clearly it is short of A330s, and it is not economical to fly the heavy 4 engined A380s to such A330s destinations where the passengers load is at most to 100% of an A330 - if at all its average load is even close to 100%.
  13. Kudos for the CPT and pilots who brought the plane to land safely down as the aircraft must be too heavy to land considering it just flew less than an hour and that the A330 should be fully laden with fuel for its 8 hour flight back. Dont think the A330 plane have any fuel dumping capability.
  14. the 738 cannot make the 7 hour flight not without some payload restrictions, as only the new 737 MAX which Malindo just got can do a 7 hour flight. But even that, then again not sure if I would want to sit 7 hours in a narrow body 737.
  15. if AK jv in China succeeds then it will be the largest within AK group considering the hugumonous China domestic air market.
  16. MAB should just go ahead fast to order the A330NEO for expansion and also for replacing its A333s in a few years time. However finit interesting that Bellews said this " He added that the B787 had greater distance potential, while the A330-neos were in production, but there would not be any more orders of the A350 aircraft." As MAB have leased 6 A350s - it would be better for MAB to go with airbus for all its wide bodies instead of having a few B787 for expansion as that would mean another different aircraft type. And MAB furture widebodies will not be that many with about 35 planes - and it woud be easier to have a all airbus fleet.

For D7, their overseas operations ie for Japan and Honolulu will not be low as like within Malaysia or Asean. this is because D7 have to pay in USD and given rm high exchange rate with USD, its not really an advantage for D7 - as say compared to Scoot and with SGD to US exhange rate far favourable than rm. Even then D7 and AK have to pay for ther aircrafts in USD and that too is not favourable given the poor rm to USD exchange. And Scoot new 787 will be more fuel efficient than current D7 A333s non-neo.
  18. Scoot still needs to pick up passengers from Osaka to Honolulu as its one of the if not the top destination for japanese. If Scoot fly direct non-stop, it may not be able to have 350 passengers from s'pore to honolulu, altho the aircraft is able to fly non-stop is not an issue. However, in terms of pricing and the route and given that s'poreans do not need a US visa to the US, Scoot may have an advantage over D7. As for malaysians, the US visa alone costs like close to rm700, plus its not really easy to get one too.

  21. Not true as MAS still uses its 737-800 to HKG - even now MH79 from HKG to KUL is using a 738 registration 9M-MLQ.

  23. MAS already have leased 4 A350s and are coming in by next year. If MAS really need the A333s or A332s, they should have just get it now at least instead of waiting for Alitalia fate and if Alitalia survives then the deal is off and MAS would have lost a good 6 months and more before it takes any real ation to get additional aircrafts as now clearly MAS is having not eough A333s to go by. And MAS should just lease or buy new aircrafts instead of getting 2nd hand ones for the longer term usage.

MAS should have pick up at least 4 A330s from last year as obviously its current fleet of A330s is not enough as there were seat refurbishment etc and even of late its A380s have to be substituted to MEL and SYD because of a shortage of A330s availabilty due to likely maintenance issues. MAS shoud have picked up the few used A330s which SIA had returned to Airbus as SIA do maintained the planes fairly well and they are only 5 years old.
