  1. doubt its the "longer 16 hours" aircraft utilisation as the aircraft and engines are designed and certified even for higher operating hours per day. Just 2 weeks ago, a SIA's A330 also suffered a engine issue and blade separation and have to do a emergency landing at Mandalay airport.
  2. Air Asia X is suspending its flights to Tehran wef 23 April 2018.
  3. believed SIA alone can easily exceed and over and above the amount of seats as SQ flies to Mel 4 times daily and 5 times daily to SYD and this excludes SQ flyging to other Aust cities like to Brisbane, Perth, Canberra etc. And this excludes Qantas and Emirates flights from SIN to Aust.
  4. it's all about maintenance and preventive maintenance. Many KLites should know how maintenance generally is in Bolehland. No point being in denial.
  5. believed when Air Asia first few to Mel some years back it was to Avalon.
  6. Given all these issues, does MAB still believe in keeping these whalejets for such charter? And for using these planes as "spares" for when the A330s are AOGed? This will be very very costly for MAB to maintained these or even 3 out of the A380s in serviceable condition and low usage and will bleed MAB into yearly losses for as long as it holds on to the jets.
  7. It;s a;ways been the lack of maintenance culture that have resulted in these frequent breakdowns. Whether getting new aerotrains or not is not the answer as it will only be a short matter of time that the new trains will also suffer the same fate. The current aerotrains have been breaking down for the past many years and not only just now. It's all comes down to the lack of proper maintenance and preventive maintenance.
  8. There are already a few players in the region which are doing charters for Umrah - including Lion Air. It's perhaps better for MAB not to spent another few million to reconfigure just 2 A380s for the Umrah charter. The better option is for MAB to dispose of all the 6 A380s even at a loss - than to hold on to the planes which will cost more. Provided there's a buyer which so far no 2nd hand A380s have been able to be sold or leased out. However the longer the A380s are in MAB books, it will unlikely show a prift even in 2019 or 2020.
  9. it is obvious that if MAS have better and nearer full capacity, then it would have meant that MAS can make money.
  10. I am just saying the fact that in this case it was not operating with a near full capacity. Likewise MH148 from MEL to KUL was diverted to Alice Springs to pick up some passengers on its way back to KUL - which would mean it stil had seats for quite a number of passengers. When did I say all other airlines have better passenger load? But however based on my personal travels with SIA flights to and from MEL, its 4 daily flights usually have very good high loads and at times its not even easy to get a seat at short notice. And in fact last March 2017, I travelled on MH 148 from MEL to KUL, I was very surprised that it was only at most 45% filled but that gives all passengers good rooms to stretched and have a extra seats to themselves.
  11. Suppose its sensationalised because its a Malaysia Airlines plane that was involved. Also note that the plane was nly carrying about 200 passengers and surprise that MAB cant even fill up the A330 - and what's worse if it uses the A380.
  12. In fact, ever since MAS was incorporated, the govt has spent more than rm16 billion in bailing it out (or they prefer to call it retsurcturing) throughout the years and the recent was 2 years back when it was sold to Khazanah - which is also a govt agency which have to put in another rm6 billion. Therefore even if MAS/MAB does make some little profit in the next couple of years, it will never be able to pay back all the billions that was used to "restructure" or more so that have been used to bail it out. hence rm 21 billion so far is alot alot of monies that have sunk into MAS/MAB - and one could have stary a brand new airline with that kind of money.
  13. Yes the govt have been bailing out MAS since by setting up SPV to then buy over the planes from MAS and then to buy the new planes for MAS and then leased it to MAB. But whatever it is, in reality the govt/MAB will lose money and with these 6 A380s sitting on the tarmac for most of the time soon, it will make it worse and someone will have to pay for the high costs of these frames. In fact, MAB will never make profits even in future if it indeed follow proper accounting and not having the govt to help in by setting up SPV to hide the true costs of airline operations.
  14. own MAS/MAB have no choice as they cant sell the 6 frames nor lease it out, and will try to use 2 to 3 frames for Haj under a new company. In the meantime these 6 frames will cost a heavy financial drain and burden as they will not be flying much at all especially after the 1st quarter when the new A350s takes over the London route. The "best" way out is for MAB to start a new chartercompany and hive off these 6 frames to reflect better on its financial results. But in reality MAB or Khanazah will still lose money on these planes.
  15. seems like such short periodof time when they send the A380s to these destinations are more so for likely because the A330s are in for heavy or scheduled maintenance, rather than a real upguage for a sustained period of time. Its all just temporary and as MAB have few A38s sitting on the ground.
  16. Just noticed that Emirates now is not flying from KUL to Melbourne directly anymore as its flights are now via Changi.
  17. Every new incoming CEO will always say and pledged to turn things around and to return to profitability. The current new CEO, CPT Ismail who have been with MAS for 38 years may find it perhaps more challenging as he has been in and with the system for so many years. Generally it takes a outsider to be able to see things in a clearer and objective perspective. But let's give him a chance and see how it will pen out. But with MAB still holding on and unable to do anything with its 6 A380s, it will be financially heavy on MAB to service the lease payments of these planes idling on the ground or flying min hours.
  18. The Saudi govt put a restriction of the number of pilgrims from Malaysia to perform the haj yearly. Currently it stands at only 27,900 a year only. So MAB keeping the A380s for Haj is really a non workable option and now that they realized this. http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/haj-quota-for-pilgrims-restored-to-27900-this-year-says-tabung-haji#QpwoQWVOHIwtmt6W.97 MAB must have realised now and the previous CEO that with the 6 A380s, MAB was not abl to fill up the seats for the past 5-6 years of having these A380s. Whats the use of expanding capacity when they cant even fill up the planes and or as MAB have tried to lower its fares to increase passenger loads but its revenue per pax is falling. There's no point in expanding when the airline do not make a profit. And keeping these 6 A380s especially will just make it near impossible to make a profit and when these planes are only used when there is occasional demand and for replacing the A330s when they are AOG.
  19. doubt MAB can be profitable as they are keeping this 6 A380s and only flying them when there is some demand or likely when their A330s are unexpectedly AOG for some time. If MAB was able to hive out these a380s from their books by starting a new charter company, then their financial woes will be lessen. Still believe MAB should try to sell these 6 A380s again even at a lower price as its expensive to just keep them around to use only when there's demand as MAB still have to pay for the planes whether they fly or not.
  20. Air Asia X last friday also announced that they are cutting back capacity to Australia by up to 25% - 30% from 2018. This will free up some of the A333s for its expansion into China and India in the interim before the new planes arrives.
  21. Even SIA have ordered this aircraft
  22. This new airline if it does comes into being will compete against MAS new charter with its 6 A380s for the haj charters as well as for regional ones. Added to this is new european set up charters with similiar A380s like Amedeo - see https://sg.style.yahoo.com/plane-leasing-company-forced-start-115925060.html And further to this if Dr Peters group with its 2 out of 5 ex SIA A380s nowmay even go into this as there are no takers for the A380s.
  23. doubt MAS/MAB would be able to do anything like this for Airbus to take back its 6 A380s, as MAB requirements for its total widebody is only 25 planes, and between this 25 planes, there is a real possibililty of MAB splitting this into a AB and Boeing buy. It's too few planes for AB to even consider any take back of its A380s
  24. It's no point even to give MAS exclusive when MAS itselfhave not been able to able to clean itself up and get down to real productivity growth. It's just like further subsiding MAS and it would make MAS more harder to push itself back. I do not agree with what the MP said about S'pore Changi as do remember clearly even the then LKY have said that Changi airport itself must be placed ahead of SIA and not grant SIA any exclusivity. This is because Changi is a major hub and as a hub it benefits S'pore and any other airlines which brings in tourists and revenue and but if it just benefit SIA, then it's only one airline which cannot accounts for the success of Changi as a hub.
  25. all 3 daily services to Brisban will be operated by the new A350s by early next year. yes do agreed - the ME3 tends to be too bling bling with alot of gold color. Woner how MH first and biz class seat designs on their newly leased A350s coming in soon.
