  1. Tip for if you are requesting a cockpit visit, be it during or after flight. Write on a piece of paper, yes a PROPER piece of paper: -Your name (in full) -Your age -Nationality -Why you want to visit the cockpit And remember to have a proper photo ID with you, your passport/IC is sufficient. All in all, the tech crew must be comfortable with the person who's requesting for the cockpit visit in order to grant the request. Good luck NB: I don't guarantee that you will get to visit the cockpit following the above, but at least higher chance.
  2. Not really easy, but I did get invited into 9M-MPB's cockpit. Was 02:30 Malaysian time when an FA approached me and led me to the upper deck. Wasn't allowed to stay there during approach and landing, but Captain said 'ok' for cruising. I guess you just gotta keep trying - that's the 4th time I've been requesting for cockpit visits.
  3. Yup, and they're going to add that to "terrorism and security charges"...
  4. Maybe. But on second thought, nah~ Let MH learn a lesson (as if it would...).
  5. Judging by the fact that MAS experienced a 40% hike in fuel cost (between 2004 and 2005 9-month financials), yes it's causing them to bleed a lot. But more towards that, MH has very very poor labour productivity. Each employee in MH was reported to have produced 270,921 load tonne kilometres. Compared to Singapore Airlines’ reported figure of 549,904 passenger load tonne kilometres per employee, that's piss poor performance! So I guess it makes much sense, from management perspective to lay-off the 30-odd percent of MH's workforce. It's cruel, but if you want the airline to stay, that's the way it has to be.
  6. Try telling the government to 'let it go' and let the airlines do what they want in terms of capacity and pricing. The situation MH is going through is very similar to the US airlines - lose money, "turnaround plan", a bit of profit, lose more money, "turnaround plan", a bit of profit...and it cycles through every few years. Still remember our Deputy Transport Minister saying that MAS does not have autonomous powers "to restructure to become a profitable entity"? I mean, what are they thinking? I don't see how that works.
  7. Sadly QF doesn't get the wide media coverage when it hires a lot of people, but when it decides to downsize the company for a leaner workforce, it gets all the limelight! Think again ppl - no news when a company is hiring heaps of ppl, but big deal when it's laying off excessive manpower...
  8. If it must be put into categories, the new 748 is technically a 'super jumbo' as well. Its wingspan will categorise it as a Code F aircraft.
  9. apparently the last time i read about the A350 design, it IS in fact just another A330 with a new name and new look. A350's size is between A340 and A330, and so is its range. don't count me on this, but i have a feeling that A350 is just another product created to give the 787 competition just so that Airbus doesn't lose momentum when Boeing is heating up the 787 sales. *shrugs*
  10. don't you guys think the current management structure is very messy? i mean, there's no transparency at all! nobody knows where money flows to (not very clearly) and nobody knows who is the ultimate decision maker since there're so many companies (each with its own management) involved in getting something done.
  11. of course you do, Delwin. CV is a must, not forgetting the cover letter. i tried applying for vacation training with MH (management, though), but they never got back to me - both via email and postal. then i start to wonder if they ever bother about it...
  12. availability is one thing, and demand is another. if port A has more pax than port B; and both aircraft's schedules fit nicely into the network when they're swapped, then the airline may consider switching them over.
  13. agree with Sandeep. gear retraction will make noise, but don't think that'll contribute to any of the vibrations we're talking about here - the spinning wheels sound more plausible.
  14. Indeed the A350 is just an improved A330 with new packaging. At least the 787 has a new look for commercial jets, rather beneficial to spotters as well
  15. Fully agree with Ruiz - you studying aviation economics? The important bit is to fill up the premium classes with full-fare paying pax first, then discounted premium, then full-fare economy, discounted economy, and finally heavily discounted economy (that's where student tickets are). By filling up, I mean physically fly the sector, not just buying a ticket! Correct, full-fare paying pax is always the airline's best friend! And just to add one to the list, frequent flyer redemption might lose airline a little money; but nevermind cuz they keep coming back, giving you more revenue from time to time
  16. what blue cockpit? Isaac, getting the numbers a bit mixed up, are you?
  17. fingers off the buttons on a life aircraft in the hangar! unless you want to create havoc, of course
  18. yes of course the grease will still be there. notice that the grease is inside the wheel bearings, so it wasn't burnt during the tyre explosion. too bad i didn't take a photo of the Piper Cherokee's landing gear that i was working on earlier, or you'll get to look at various parts of the undercarriage, for a small aircraft that is.
  19. d'oh~! stuck in Sydney till 3 dec...
  20. there is a possibility for these crew to be working on the SYD-KCH-KUL flight...the last time i flew SYD-KCH-KUL, the existing FAs stayed onboard, sat down and enjoy whilst a new set of FAs came onboard and started serving etc.
  21. sounds serious. and not only will it affect the a380, it will do the same to the 787
  22. first of all, the aviation industry in malaysia isn't mature enough to offer too many jobs. and secondly, if you want to get into the industry, you should approach the airlines or related agencies directly, not via jobstreet.com.
  23. the last time i flew, boarding was at gate C33
