  1. Point taken, everyone 'kena' if taken to that level :)

Don't forget road tax, house assessment rates, quit rent, stamp duty, .......

But I'm pretty sure I have had, as an individual, contributed more than RM656 in 'taxes' (substantially more in fact) "

    since MH started requiring bailouts"

(Goodness knows when that 'start date' started ticking though, possibly from day 1 ?)

So please pardon me for feeling shortchanged somewhat, particularly as I have had no reason to travel too very often and certainly not in position to take advantage of MH

    "

    J cheapies" :)

Fair enough. I am only saying you CAN avail of it if you so choose.

From where Im siting the alternative is that the money disappears down some rabbit hole or some other opaque scheme of which neither you nor I can partake of.

If its not this, its that. And I prefer this over that. Lets not be naive in thinking it wil go back into some hospital or school or road or some altruistic endeavor for the good of all Malaysians.

  2. Few people could take advantage like you. Those benefited from existing arrangements prefer status quo.

If we were to put a number on it - for argument's sake - Let's call it RM21 billion so far cumulatively. Off a population of 32 million that works out to RM 656 for every man, woman and child since MH started requiring bailouts. You don't need to buy very many cheap tickets to come out ahead of your relative contribution to the bailout. Adjust the numbers if somewhat inaccurate, but the the crux of the matter is the fact that there are far more projects and bailouts from which you cannot actively and voluntarily gain from than this.

  3. Therein lies their problem - they can't sell enough of cattle class seats and they can't get good yields from elite class seats. Squeezed at both ends!

    No disagreement there....

It's a problem, and ultimately. it's a problem for taxpayers collectively.

Individually? Think about it this way - the strategy is to fly enough on MH cheap fares that it essentially means the non-flying taxpayer subsidizes you.

So why shut it down or even have a business plan to turn it around? If you look at MH as a quasi-socialist construct with benefits available for all, but only some partaking of it, it takes on a far different complexion.

I'm not an aviation nut. I'm a pragmatic traveller, and the airline that gets me to where i want to go at the correct price/quality proposition gets my money. Currently, the king of that price/quality equation is MH - i.e it's Cheap and the quality is so-so.

Long Live MH in it's current state! Daulat MH! :)

  4. At mab current service level, it couldn't increase ticket price or yield.

That's a good thing for Consumers no?

The concern about bailouts as a collective notion is valid. As an individual, work out the per capita cost of all these bailouts, and then make an educated guess of how much MH can't charge because of it.

My portion of the bailouts (as a malaysian taxpayer) is miniscule compared to the money I've saved buying J cheapies. Yes, there'll be some people whose travel patterns and routes will show MH as consistently more expensive, but I'm talking about the RM4000 CMB-KUL-CDGs, RM4400 KUL-SYD, RM5000 TPE-KUL-MEL amongst others. Really I've lost count of how many great fares there have been over the years, all because MH can't charge the premium it'd dearly love.

It's pointless having all the trimmings, limo service, private suites and what not to fight with SQ or whoever, only for them to charge an arm and a leg and then for me to look in from the outside drooling because I can't afford it.

Like they say - even in a Bear market you can make money.

The caveat of course is if you don't fly MH at all, in which case, then the point is valid about your money going down the drain.

  5.

Didn't know DPS is conducive for B2B turns. Will keep that in mind ;)

It's not. I was a bit gung ho with that one :p

The old 867/866s 2hr turnaround made it easier

I seem to recall it being a bit less than 2 hours, but certainly longer than normal turns.

Does the new DPS int'l terminal facilitate easy airside turnaround?

No it doesn't. It's terrible :p will not try that again for sure!

  6. MH will be adding a 4th daily DPS flight at less than ideal (to put it mildly) schedule:

    MH867 KUL2100 - 00:05+1DPS 738 D

    MH866 DPS0110 - 0410KUL 738 D

IIRC, MH had a similar schedule before and that flight didn't last long. The silver lining is pax on this flight won't have to endure Bali traffic to get to/from their hotels :D

I've done these exact 2 flight numbers as a turn before. I thought it was great as i didn't have to take any leave :)

  7. Thanks Suzanne.

Another random Q, if based on the website it shows there isn't a bulkhead seat available, does it mean they will not allow you to book it if you are with an infant who needs a bassinet?

You mean unavailable because it's blocked or unavailable because it's occupied?

If it's blocked - a simple call (not via the website) to the call center (for just about any airline) and they will be able to see there's an infant attached to your booking, and assign one of those seats.

if it is occupied - occupants CAN be kicked out at the discretion of MH (unless they themselves have infants), and can be kicked out at the time you call (not having to wait till airport check in)

  8. Slightly OT but does anyone know how to book different cabin classes on CX's website?

Like KUL-HND in Y but return to KUL in C?

If the J and Y fares are not combinable - then the calculation would be sectorised separately rather than a through return KUL-HND-KUL. Youd end up paying more than just round trip J.

If it is combinable, any good travel agent can book it for you on the basis of two half round trips and basically pay the difference between roundtrip J and roundtrip Y.

If a travel agent can do it, there may be some sites where you can do it.

  9.

I thought we all want it to be profitable.

I want it to maintain the current price/service ratio. The profitability is secondary (to me). The fact that it bleeds and the government has to bail it out is unfortunate, but if you buy enough cheapies (and there have been many), essentially the rest of the non-travelling/infrequent travelling Malaysian tax paying public is subsidizing you.

I'm not so much an Aviation Enthusiast but a bargain hunter, and the current status quo is precisely where I need it to be. One size doesn't fit all, I grant you, but it does for some.

  10. The Cabin is closed. Not a huge loss though, IMO.

It's still 5 lounges if you count the Arrival lounge :p

Sorry. Meant the bridge. If you count arrivals its 6 then :) rules a bit different for that one - technically not a Oneworld lounge that.

    How would you rank these?

Honestly theyre similar. Go to the one nearest to your gate.

If youre departing from the 60s - choose the pier. If from the 40s - the bridge or a slightly longer walk to the pier.

If youre going from the low 20s to 36 - bridge works. The deck, wing and QF works too albeit a longer walk. If youre going from 1-4 - the wing. 11-15 the deck.

As for rank... slightly mischievous but .. its the pier F 😛 followed closely by the wing F.

  11. The English-language calls are now routed to Fiji. Been this way for quite some time.

For many the experience has been painful. Poorly trained staff who are empowered to do virtually nothing.

Thankfully the BM call centre is still in Malaysia. Since the Fiji outsourcing I have been pressing 2 for BM. A much better experience, to say the least :)

I'd started pressing 2 for BM long before the outsource to Fiji. Just quicker overall. But it's funny now, cause i see a lot of my friends calling the BM line going --- er er er gua kasi lu reference gua. Lu tengok mau kasi tukar flight bikin lambat sikit boleh ah?

  12. Khalil, Suzanne and Chris need to have their own thread, who knows when they put their heads together they could come up with some mind blowing strategies to fix everything that's wrong in the world of commercial aviation (and perhaps to find solutions to their never ending feud) just so that not every thread degenerates into their long-standing petty argument.

Not sure what you mean. Ive been nothing but agreeable and encouraging to our friend here. Ive enquired as to his plan to severely punish MH for their transgressions and dastardly deeds with the whole row 1 saga, via a boldly and strongly placed complaint to mavcom, even seeking his guidance on how I would proceed should he succeed.

Ive even overlooked the use of those misogynistic terms he used on me. Im sure he didnt mean it.

Feud ? Most assuredly not :) I said it back then and Im saying it again now. We are on the same side. 😊

  13.

and yeah right you are a peace loving non confrontational ppl and see your comment in other topic...

I'm sure Chris will be extremely pleased you view him in such a positive light.

and you are the person who tried to relieve old issue on MAVCOM, dont try to be clever coz ur not! and that's ur idea of not making personal attack???

Yes. That's what people who try to make peace on forums do. Relieve things. That's the spirit of a good discussion.

    WHAT A JOKE!

Yes. That's also a good point. Humor makes the forum a much better place :)

    Excellent observations all round!

  14. Let's get back on topic shall we?

I'm far more curious to know how Khalil got on with his threats with MH - with the MAVCOM complaints and lawsuit threats, and if any outcome was obtained or remedies were given, rather than arguing about grammar and spelling.

I'm clearly a victim as well, and naturally, as a lawyer, he'd know that when a predecent is set, it paves the way for others to follow suit (pun somewhat intended). I'd like to take the same course of action, but being a layman I'd never have the kind of success you might have - so any pointers on how to bring MH to its' knees like you have would be most gratefully appreciated.

  15. Wow, Suzzane's flight flights are amazing! You have even done the MCM to NCE sector.

I read about it about that operation in Airliner World and always wondered about the jetsetter who would use that service. Truly amazing.

Not jetset la... Just wanted to ride the helicopter. It was 105 euros at the time (in 2011) one way. They even allowed me to check a bag in (which they brought via road). Was only 11 miles in total but i felt like a movie star for a few minutes :)
