  1. Just been researching the new AK Perth flights and it appears the inaugural flight on Sunday will be operated by a 321N then A320N’s are scheduled, so forward bookings can’t be that fantastic. Did some further research and it appears these flights can only be operated by ETDO certified birds so it looks like AGA, E, G, H, I, J, L, N, O, Q, R, S, V, RAH, J and M + VAA and VAB are the only aircraft that‘ll be permitted to fly this new route. Just as a side note, I was surprised to be how many inactive and parked A320N’s AK currently has, including -NEO, guessing the lease costs are prohibitive on these frames.
  2. The new AK604/605 KL-PER-KL service begins on 11/3 using A321N’s, it’ll be interesting to see how they handle delays/tech issues with just the current 2 x A321NEO’s in the fleet and whether they sub in EDTO A320N’s for a flight of that duration when unforeseen events occur.
  3. As usual with the AirAsia group there’s lots of promises, spruiking and announcements, which seldom doesn’t seem to materialise into anything. Is there any timeframes when the next factory fresh frames will be actually be delivered to the group? I might be wrong here, but I believe the last factory fresh frame was delivered back in August 2019 and that was -RAT a A320CEO to AK.
  4. -XXR has returned from heavy maintenance in Manila and is back hard at work, anyone know what livery she’s returned in?
  5. Wow that’s a substantial difference in total seating between international and domestic configs on the ex PR A330’s!
  6. I was doing some research on YouTube for some upcoming flights and was surprised to see that -MLF and -MLH have been reconfigured and now feature the new slimline seats as found on -MLJ. Does anyone know if -MLG and -MLI have also been done?
  7. -XXW is back in service, operated an overnight flight down to Perth and she’s currently returning to KL as D7237.
  8. Cheers JW, the Air Asia group fleet movements are fascinating to watch from afar. D7 in particular have gone from having a solid consistent product to a mish mash of interiors and configurations. I watched a recent YouTube video and those ex PR birds, still have Phillipine Airlines logo on the FA display screen near L1!
  9. Does that leave just leave -XXC and -XXD parked at KL all wrapped up Bhai?
  10. I would’ve thought Penang-Perth-Penang would be a higher priority than direct flights to KCH! Having just returned from Penang, the amount of pax that transferred onto the same connecting Scoot flight at Changi was noticeable. As a regular visitor to PG, there was plenty of Aussie tourists in Georgetown and Batu Ferringhi on this trip. Also, just out of interest what’s the current longest AK flight in terms of flight time?
  11. Does D7 still have any A330’s which remained stored or in the process of undergoing reactivation?
  12. https://www.travelnewsasia.com/news23/2111-AirAsiaMalaysia.shtml The new AK Perth flights will be operating in addition to the daily D7 flights. Is AK due to take delivery of any additional A321Neo’s soon?
  13. JW, I thought -MXA has also undergone the interior refurb Bhai?
  14. The oldest A333ceo is only 12 years old, whilst the newest -MTO has even celebrated her 10th birthday yet. These A333’s are barely at half-life and fulfil the regional (intra Asia routes) perfectly, hoping these remain in the fleet for those missions. Also as a side note -MTD hasn’t flown since 21 June, is this just maintenance related?
  15. Curious to know with the 737-8 fleet is it just 9M-LRG/H and J which have the 12J/150Y cabins or have any other MAXs been reconfigured yet? Also not too be forgotten their new KUL-PER-AKL-PER-AKL service begins on the 23/8, that’s a mighty long flight for a MAX, when you consider the WAMOS A330’s which operate the same route currently for Air NZ have of flight time of around 7hr15mins.
  16. I know we ran a thread a few years back when the MH A333’s was being reconfigured which was popular, so thought it prudent to start a new one for the MH 738 fleet which are currently undergoing cabin refurbishment from 16J/144Y = 160 seats to 12J/162Y for a total of 174 seats. The new seats are predominantly blue and feature: * Lighter, leaner and thinner seats which now incorporate device/literature holders and AC power + USB type A and C charging outlets. * IFE now streamed to your personal device through on-board Wi-Fi. * Seat pitch of 39 inches in J and 30 inches in Y. See below for some images I took recently on-board -MSA. Feel free to add frames once they are confirmed as refurbished, I’ll start the list off and confirm these 738’s are now completed, although sure there’s several more done. 9M-MLN, MSA, MXN and MXV. Business/J class Economy/Y class
  17. I’m led to believe -MLI has been withdrawn from the MH fleet and is undergoing work in preparation of joining the FY fleet.
  18. Will FY be getting any additional 738’s from the parent company to operate these new services or is there slack in the roster of their current fleet of 4? The email I received today, mentioned that the route would be operated by refurbished 189 seat 737-800’s, interesting it mentioned a specific seating configuration.
  19. One of the aircraft I have followed for many years A320 9M-AQQ, which was the worlds first sharklet equipped A32x series plane, finally pinged on FR24 last night after nearly 2 1/2 years in hibernation and is now back flying in familiar airways. Good to see aircraft returning to the AK fleet, I should really use my gold membership and see where we’re up to with their fleet reactivations.
  20. Brilliant informative post Julius, just one further question what happened to the 2 Thai AirAsia X A330-900’s HS-XJA and -XJB?
  21. Cheers JW, I did some research and found that the AirAsia Group only have the following A333’s in active service: 9M-XBE, XBF, XXF, XXQ, XXR, XXU, XXZ HS-XTC, XTE, XTG, XTH, XTI 9M-XXR is up in Manila presumably undergoing maintenance and hopefully a repaint. Interestingly 9M-VVA has been parked for several months now at KL. 9M-XBE I believe us leased from BOC Aviation, is this the one in the odd high density configuration?
  22. There’s still a number of stored/parked D7 A333’s parked at KL and other airports around the world, some of which are in Air Asia livery and configuration, I’m curious to know why these stored ones aren’t being put back into service first?
  23. I think it often gets forgotten that MH’s A333’s aren’t actually that old, the first one -MTA is only a fraction over 11years old. The J product is only 6 years old and most of them have been repainted in the past 18months. They are the perfect workhorse for regional flights, it’s just a shame that the Y product is so dated compared to their closest competitor. The A332’s are a different story, but they were an opportune acquisition when they became available at short notice, with minimal expenditure on the interiors.
  24. An evening/night departure from Singapore would definitely be welcomed, the only current option is an AK flight which leaves around 7-8pm. Aircraft No.4 -MLJ is painted in FY livery and presumably is still being reconfigured.
  25. -XXU now back in service after being parked since February 2022.
