  1. The 734 are not too old to be considered unsafe I believe...

By the way, every maintenance has its share of incidents... MH maintenance crew friends I don't have, but I have heard a fair amount of stories passengers don't want to hear from an SIA Engineering friend of mine... Both airlines still maintain pretty good record anyway... :-)

I don't think there is something like an unsafe aircraft per se. There is just bad maintenance and bad crew... But an aircraft that has survived already 1000ends of flights can't be that bad if it is properlay maintained... and if I do proper maintenence, their duty life can be extended tremendously.

Until recently, in the US still DC9-10, which had more than 45 years of active life on their wings, were used in regular service.... MAS737 is very young, almost a kid, compared to that... And I would consider MAS maintenence as one of the good ones ;) So I feel safe...

  2. http://www.abtn.co.uk/news/2314989-garuda-indonesia-join-skyteam

Garuda Indonesia has signed an agreement to join Skyteam, with the joining ceremony scheduled for 2012.

The Indonesian airline will add some 30 new destinations to the alliance’s network.

Emirsyah Satar, President and CEO of Garuda, said the airline’s signing with Skyteam is part of a long-term development strategy.

“For years we have been upgrading our service and actively forging cooperation with SkyTeam member airlines with this objective in mind,” he said.

“As the first Indonesian airline to join this world-class alliance, our strategic target is to continuously strengthen profitability and boost international market competitiveness.”

  3. .

MH mentioned that with this effort they have incorporated all KLM, bmi, Alitalia and ANA code share flights into their booking engine, but let us not forget that MH has 24 other code share partners whose flights are not yet incorporated into the booking engine. There are still a lot to be done.

And pleeeease add Vienna again... We have connections with KLM to Amsterdam, Alitalia to Rome and BMI to london... Currently its more or less impossible to book MH ex VIE...

    Well... good Luck!

Currently the situation still gets worse. Frankfurt is closed since early morning (so currently ALL western european intercont hubs are closed: Paris, London, Frankfurt, Muc expects to be closed later today). The Austrian airspace will be closed by early evening today.

I should be going to London tomorrow morning...good joke, isn't it?

I have been put on another flight on Tuesday, April 27th. This is more than a week from my planned flight. I had to call my School and inform them I won't be able to get back in time for exams.

Keeping in touch with the airline over the weekend was impossible even in a situation when passengers really need to be in touch with them. Called airline in KL, Sg., and UK, got no answer. Finally few hours before planned flight they called me and inform me about flight cancelation; this is not efficient, is it...

well I haven't been called by anyone. I could do the web-checkin as usual, and then, around midnight, my 7am departure flight was cancelled. No one called, sent an SMS or mailed. - and I was already checked in for that flight....

They most probably did not inform you beforehand because they could not predict for how long the closure will continue - some expected airports will re-open this morning, but only in Austria they did. UK is still closed, allthoug yesterdays communications told that they most likely will reopen at 2am.

So don't blame the airlines - nobody knows...

  5. quite easy: the airspace is NOT closed - there is just the restriction that no IFR flights may be operated. As long as the cargo flights are operated under VFR rules, they are allowed to fly.

Theoretically also passenger flights in VFR condition would be possible, but they are limited to a/c with maximum of 19 seats in europe - so replacing one 747 with 20 twinotters would be possible in theory.

Also all positioning flights of the airlines are operated under VFR conditions only with no passengers onboard.

  6. When is the airspace likely to reopen? I need to fly back to MAN by 19th...

  7. Recently MH included several of its codeshare destinations into the booking engine. We can now book flights to Brussels, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Dublin, Belfast, Oslo, Sandefjord-oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester from MH's website. These are all codeshare flights with KLM and bmi.

I hope the remaining codeshare destinations - Abu Dhabi, Athens, Bahrain, Barcelona, Cairo, Doha, Durban, Fukuoka, Kristiansand, Kuwait, Madrid, Mauritius, Muscat, Port Elizabeth and Tashkent, will be included in the booking engine too asap. Why delay something that would bringing in more cash into the company's coffer?

Vienna would be good as well *sigh*

  8. Flee : i think if your time is up, it does not make any difference which aircraft u fly in.. I personally opine that everyone involved in doing their job, will do so to the best of their abilities.. The rest is we just have to leave it the ONE up there.

And always bear in mind, that the trip by car or bus to and from the airport is many times more dangerous than a flight on the shabbiest of all imaginable airlines....

  9. No...

what's wrong with them? Why can't they market high yield destinations like the US properly? Given the choice on the route ARN-NYC, I'd choose MH everytime... Like SQ on FRA-JFK, which is the far better choice then any other airlines on that route.

If you look at all the route cuttings of the past 2 years, MH will soon be like Garuda....

  10. according to two swiss news portals, Singapore Airlines may start using the A380 on one daily flight to Zurich starting with the winter timetable, replacing the two daily 777-300 flights. Also Paris is a considered A380 destination.

Finally the A380 arrives in continental europe ;)

  11. An aircraft owned and operated by Air France disappeared from the radar screens this morning. The aircraft with 215 passengers on board was travelling from Rio de Janeiro bound for Paris, as it disappeared at 8am local time above the sea, approx. 1,15hours before estimated arrival.

At the moment no further information is available, but it is said that SAR and rescue teams are looking for evidence.

  12. Passengers travelling Busines Class between Australia and London, Buenos Aires and San Francisco on Qantas can be happy: Quantas stops selling F-Cl tickets on these routes, as the market dropped extremely due to recent economic crisis, and seats C-Cl passengers on those seats instead, reports the newspaper "The Australian". But this should only be a temporary measure during current economic downturn.

  13. I just lost my gold status (received silver card already) as MH failed to credit most of my miles from the past year... I am in continuos contact with them - well, more, I keep bugging them without any replies - but nothing happens. Even the german office does not want to help anymore...

I always was a strong supporter of MAS, but I guess they finally (after several other errr inconveniences) they successfully drove me away.

Who needs a paying C customer anyway?
