  2. Hi Jens, Visited Jakarta in Feb 09, and looking forward to go back again later this year. We stayed at the Jakarta Airport Hotel with rooms overlooking the ramp dosent get any better than that! A free shuttle bus transits regularly between terminals and viewing from the terrace is thru metal mesh. Shooting aircraft with lets say 70-300mm lens no problem. Here's a few pics from the Observation Terrace. Jakarta derelict stored aircraft (GMF) Jakarta derelict stored aircraft (other side) Jatayu Air 737-236 PK-JGY Cheers Greg
  3. Hi all, West Australia's oldest survivng aircraft the 'Silver Centenary' originally built by Selby Ford back in 1931, and until recently had been on display in Beverley Aviation Muesum until 2007, now has been fully restored and bought up to airworthy condition by Selby Ford's grandson Rod Edwards. This aircraft has had several test flights late last year but on Saturday 22.02.09 at 14.22hrs, the aircraft under Rod's command flew for the first time back to Beverley. A historical moment in West Australian Aviation history was rewritten on Saturday. Here are three images of its departure on Saturday and two other gems discovered that day. Used for anti-terrorist training and other training excersises for various agencies. Its been there for many years and I recall it once carried the titles "Emu Airways". Regards Greg

  21. Jens, Welcome to MWings. Iam doing a re-visit in January to many Asian airports, after doing much homework of the region, and looking at what best mix of aircraft types and airliners, muesums, warbirds, military, stored aircraft we could see this is what we decided on doing. We will be away 2 weeks in total. Airports: Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Halim & Jogjakarta. Museums: Kuala Lumpur & Jogjakarta Stored aircraft: Jakarta Airside visits: Halim (Jakarta) Indonesia US$100 pp We looked at Singapore but decided against it due to poor exchange rate, the traffic (most of it) we've seem before, and the closure of parts of T1 viewing mall. Photography 'outside' in humid conditions and the with no scanner (prohibited import) it becomes difficult, not to mention the fickle weather conditions. My thoughts anyway, others may have other suggestions. Cheers Greg
  22. Malaysian airline orders up to 55 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Malaysian Airline System said Monday that it ordered as many as 55 new Boeing 737-800 planes to help replace an aging fleet and expand operations in Asia. The airline said it had placed a firm order for 35 Boeings, with an option for an additional 20 in a deal worth $4.2 billion at list prices. The airline also has the option to swap the B737-800 series for the larger B737-900 configuration. "We expect to take delivery of the first aircraft from September 2010 onwards," the chief executive, Idris Jala, said in a statement. He added that the new planes would let the airline expand its network to places that previously were not economically viable. The aircraft will be used mainly for routes in Southeast Asia, the Malaysian domestic sector and China and India, Jala said in the statement. "We will likely partially purchase the Boeing 737-800 on our own and partially lease them as that would give us the flexibility to manage our balance sheet and financing commitments, and sell some of them when the timing is right," he said. Last week, the chief financial officer, Tengku Azmil Zahruddin, said that the airline planned to announce the orders within a month. The airline also said it would take delivery of six Airbus A380-800 superjumbos in 2011. Delivery was originally been scheduled from January 2007 to December 2008 but was delayed by wiring glitches that pushed Airbus into a loss. Malaysian Airline System said a compensation agreement had been reached but gave no details. The airline reported a net profit of 851.4 million ringgit, or $266 million, last year, ending two years of losses with turnaround plan that has produced better yields while reducing costs. Analysts estimated that the airline's 2008 net profit would be 758.5 million ringgit, rising to 989.7 million in 2009. The Perth connection: Malaysian Air B738s ops to Perth Allegedly, MH will be changing their twice weekly A330 night flights (KUL-PER-KUL) MH127/126 to 4x weekly B738s from June 2009. I say allegedly because I thought their B738s were coming in 2010. (Subject to change as always) but very interesting indeed.... 5 hours over water in a 738 - No thanks! This could be great news for Air Asia X if this becomes reality. Regards Greg
  23. Great photos TK. I personally loath photos with ugly watermarks... Yours were very nice to view without the 'other' distraction which is a real turn off. Names & Credits granted by not thru the guts of the aircraft please! Cheers Greg
  24. Great Photos Syed, Whats the best way to get to this location ?? I will be visiting next month. Cheers Greg
