  1. Based on the above, CAN, DEL, HKG, DPS will get the A332. Wonder which station wil get it next...

DAC. 1st 332 will do CAN and DAC. 2nd 332 will do DEL and DPS. 3rd is currently scheduled for HKG only since it RON at HKG.

    Abandoned child ? :p

Maybe they are going to the adopting agency and pick it back up :p

AusBT suggests that the AKL 359 deployment is a mistake in the schedules and will be corrected, quoting an unamed Mh official

It sure looks like it. F have been zeroed out. I can't say I am surprised tho. August through October is hardly peak-travel season to/from NZ. "Let's splurge on a F class ticket and see wind-battered island" - says no one ever.

  2. Full changes here.

    Other notable changes:

    1) Kuala Lumpur - Dhaka MH 196/197 equipment change from 738 to 332

    2) Kuala Lumpur - Hong Kong MH 78/79 equipment change from 738 to 332

    3) Kuala Lumpur - Adelaide increase from 4 to 5 weekly

Still no signs of additional flights/capacity to MH Australia's stepchild - PER :p Neglected and delayed for the past few months :D

  3. A few more updates/corrections:

    1) MH loaded its KUL-FOC/NKG schedules for Summer 2018. It seems like it won't go the way of WUH after all :)

    2) KUL-CAN will be served initially by MH 333, but will switch to ex-AB 332 later

    3) KUL-ICN will be increased from 10 to 12 weekly (additional day 57 ex-KUL and 16 ex-ICN on MH 38/39)

    4) KUL-DEL equipment change from MH 333 services to ex-AB 332

    5) KUL-DPS on MH 714/715 equipment change from 738 to ex-AB 332 (last summer was MH 333)

  4. Malaysia Airlines A350-900XWB aircraft to serve Tokyo Narita from 05MAY18, Auckland from 05AUG18

Now I know where I can easily redeem my 50K AA miles for MH P class :D

Initially thought they will use upcoming A332 for Auckland route. Hmm

They never said that. AUBT speculated that but that was denied by a member here (whom I assume works for MH) ;)

  5. Fuzhou and nanjing not well receive due to its unfavourable timings?

    Or subsidy ended :p

Wow; my guess that NKG and FOC are seasonal routes?

Glad to see KUL-CAN upgraded to 333, and KUL-NRT upgraded to 359.

AFAIK, MH doesn't really do seasonal routes - they usually do it year-round (minus charters).

The NRT up gauge seems like a placeholder for the 3 remaining 359s. 3 is required for the 2 daily LHR, 1.7 more for NRT (MH 70/71 is 5 weekly) and they still have 1.3 left. Even with a daily AMS, MH can still operate 1 daily AMS/NRT and 2 daily LHR plus a 3-5 hour regional turn (HKG?) with 6 359s.

And of course MH hasn't updated its schedule for the ex-AB 332s which should free up even more 333s.

  6. Politicians are fond of comparing what we pay for things in Malaysia but fail to compare what we earn in Malaysia.

KLIA, being the gateway airport for Malaysians, needs to be affordable to Malaysian travellers. It is already struggling to attract foreign pax due to the excellence of SIN and the connectivity of BKK. If it is to continue to grow sustainably, it must make itself more affordable. Increasing its service charges is not going to help.

klia2 pax growth in 2018 should be interesting to watch. In the past LCCT/klia2 pax numbers have exploded because budget travel is available to more and more people. But with costs at klia2 rising, it should be interesting to see if the growth trend will continue.

Airports need to learn that passenger perceptions are (rightly or wrongly) going to determine whether they visit again? If you don't get value for money, you will not return.

You left out the part where I was comparing MY to all ASEAN countries and not UK or Japan? Maybe I should make it clearer that MY is the *cheapest amongst* ASEAN countries for intra-ASEAN flights and one of the cheapest to non-ASEAN destinations. If the average Malaysian traveler to non-ASEAN countries can't afford to pay RM23 more, what do you think of the average residents of Cambodia or Philippines who has to pay even more taxes for a short hop to a neighboring country?

Connectivity and airport taxes don't really go hand in hand. As previously mentioned, MY does not charge transit passengers taxes like most other countries do. Heathrow or Frankfurt with its exorbitant taxes manage to attract tons of connecting passengers. Even if MY eliminates its PSC, LH/AF/QF and the likes won't return to KUL anytime soon.

You could have an amazing airport with extremely low airport taxes but it won't attract a lot of airlines; case in point - DOH. Without QR, DOH will just be as busy as PEN/BKI.

  7. I have a question. In the case of the flight is delayed, will the operating carrier reopen check in?

Depends on how late the delay was posted. If the delay was posted after check-in has closed, they don't usually reopen check in (possible reasons include mechanical, weather, ATC holds etc.). If the delay was posted long before check-in was scheduled to close, they usually delay check-in closing time (especially with a delayed inbound and on rare occasions or outstations, they'll delay counter opening time too).

I always OLCI if possible to avoid being in your shoe. That way, I can at least run to the gate if I am late. Bags will go on standby if need be ;)

Out of curiosity, how much did you bid for the MHUpgrade?

  8. A few notable changes for Sumer 2018:

    1) MH launches (or resumes?) Hangzhou, China:

    MH520 KUL1745 - 2300HGH 738 357

    MH521 HGH2355 - 0535+1KUL 738 357

    2) Kuala Lumpur - Tokyo Narita increase from 10 to 12 weekly wef 08MAY18 (additional frequency on day 24)

    MH70 KUL0950 - 1800NRT 333 Dx16

    MH71 NRT2125 - 0410+1KUL 333 Dx16

    3) Kuala Lumpur - Tokyo Narita equipment change from 333 to 359 (beginning with MH88/89 and then MH70/71 as well). Sold as 3-cabin.

    4) MH resumes Yogjakarta, Indonesia beginning June 2018 (not targeting leisure pax? No Friday/Saturday service):

    MH857 KUL0945 - 1120JOG 738 1237

    MH856 JOG1220 - 1555KUL 738 1237

    5) Kuala Lumpur - Guangzhou equipment change from 738 to 333

    6) Kuala Lumpur - Fuzhou will be suspended (currently served 3 weekly on 738)

    7) Kuala Lumpur - Nanjing will be suspended (currently served 3 weekly on 738)

  9. No one likes to pay (additional) taxes, but this is just leveling the playing field between T1 and T2 (no other airports in the world, AFAIK, charges taxes differently based on the terminal [not airport] they fly out from).

Before everyone starts complaining, airport taxes ex-ASEAN major cities to KUL (on MH) for your consideration:

    Brunei: RM 37 (PSC)

    Cambodia: RM 102 (PSC)

    Indonesia: RM 46 (PSC)

    Laos: RM 62 (PSC)

    Myanmar: RM 14 (APIS) + RM 82 (PSC) = RM 96

Philippines: RM 131 (PH Travel Tax) + RM 45 (PSC) = RM 176

Singapore: RM 19 (SG Aviation Levy) + RM 25 (PSC) RM 61 (Passenger Security Fee) = RM 105

    Thailand: RM 88 (PSC) + RM 2 (International Departure Fee) + RM 5 (APIS) = RM 95

    Vietnam: RM 82 (PSC) + RM 9 (Pax/Bag Security Fee) = RM 91

Malaysia (for ASEAN): RM 35 (PSC) + RM 2.10 (GST - variable) = RM 37.10

    Malaysia (for non-ASEAN): RM 73 + GST

In addition, Thailand charges RM 5 for APIS plus RM 2 for all international arrivals.

Malaysia already has the lowest departure fees/taxes to ASEAN countries and one of the lowest taxes to non-ASEAN countries. If you *really* want to save on the RM23, you can always fly to an ASEAN airport and connect to a non-ASEAN flight from there, but you'll have to pay taxes at the connecting airport too ;) Malaysia on the other hand doesn't charge connecting pax taxes. The grass is not always greener on the other side :)

Right now, I do not feel the level of passenger service is equal to that of MTB. So I should be paying less service charge for it. Paying the same would mean that I will subsidise the passengers travelling via the MTB.

Remind me again, which other airport in the world charges differently based on how nice the terminal is or how far one has to walk?

  10. Wonder if our current PM would suggest some new routes to MAB

LAX direct perhaps? Either the A350 or 787-9

As much as I would love a LAX-KUL nonstop, it wouldn't be happening in the near future. Nonstop flights on UA for LAX-SIN is yours for $380 USD! And if you are flying to KUL, the UA/NH JV covers it well - flights are frequently $400 USD or less. Then they have corporate contracts to fill up the premium cabin. Where is MH going to get the corporate contracts from?

  11.

In the case of the Kuala Lumpur–Bangalore route, Mavcom said it allocated 360 seats to Malindo Air and 24 seats to AirAsia in June. Following these allocations, Malindo Air operates 360 seats and AirAsia operates 744 seats per week, while Malaysia Airlines Bhd continues to operate 1,920 seats from its previous allocation made by the transport ministry, prior to Mavcom’s establishment.
“We battled and fought to get those additional slots, but now it is being allocated to another airline that is not even using them,” Kamarudin claimed, saying AirAsia was part of the Malaysian delegation at the meeting.

What is AK going to do with 24 seats (unless they are already blocking seats due to bilateral)?

OD might not be using them, but did they apply for it and gave a tentative start date? Either way, both OD and AK can get around MY-IN bilateral using one of their ID's subsidiary like they have for flights to BOM and MAA.

Mavcom should use bidding on those routes that has limited slots/seats. Those who desperately wants will bid higher. If not use, will cost them $$$. And airlines are allowed to trade with each other.

Let's not monetize everything. The smaller or less-funded carrier will always lose in this case. They should argue their case on why they are the best airline to be given the privilege to serve that route.

  12. YVR-TPE-KUL is one of my most flown TPAC routes. Oh, if only... :D

I can see how it'd be a huge money loser though. Even SQ can't find a way to make YVR work.

KUL-TPE-YVR only operated twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays only) - does that work for you :p It's a daytime flight both east and westbound. IIRC, it was MH 98/99.

CA-SG/MY market is tiny. SQ pretty much relied on fifth freedom ICN-YVR to make the flight worked for them previously.

  13. MH also flew to Malé, Kolkata, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Brisbane, Darwin, Buenos Aires, Kunming, Chengdu (which MH plans to resume), Xi'an, Guilin, Yogyakarta, Vientiane and Krabi :). Man I feel super old today for remembering those destinations I saw on the KUL/SZB departure board!

Vancouver and Mexico City? Whoa.. haha

Correct. Routing was KUL-TPE-YVR and KUL-TPE-LAX-MEX.

    Even Busan? Really? Wow!

Correct too. IIRC, the routing was KUL-SEL-PUS-KUL.

If I recall correctly, Mexico City was a fifth freedom flight served from LAX & was cancelled after the US revoked MH's fifth freedom rights due to complaints by one of the US3.

Incorrect lol. It was the Mexican authorities that revoked MH's fifth freedom rights. MH and US had very liberal air agreements back then (not open skies, but very liberal; US-MY open-skies was signed in 1997). Mexico suspended Malaysia's fifth freedom rights on 01JAN1997. US3 was maybe US10+ when MH served MEX (but also only 2 airlines from each country were allowed to serve a city pair, e.g. only 2 American and 2 Mexican carriers were able to serve LAX-MEX back then).
